Bret Boone announced his retirement.

Boone had tried to make a comeback with the Nationals, but got sent to the minor leagues after hitting .189 in 12 spring training games. He accepted an assignment to Triple-A, but left on April 17 to wait for a call from a contender. Ultimately, the 39-year-old decided staying in baseball shape was just too hard. Boone finishes with a .266 average and 252 career home runs, the sixth most for a second baseman. He also won four Gold Gloves.
