My Pinemeadow Excels have not come in yet --- they are due on Tuesday.

I was at Academy Sports today and they were selling the Excel Strongs w/ Hybrid (3-5) for $149. I picked up a 7 iron and compared it to the Callaway X-20s. . . just there in the store, I couldn't see a $450 difference in the two clubs.

I think I'll be pleased with the Pinemeadow clubs.

I think you will too. The Mid Launch Plus clubs have been fantastic for me. My iron game right now is fantastic. I used to be a long drive good putter type without trying to mess up in between, now my iron game is my biggest strength. I'm just hoping they are durable, my beginner clubs after 5+ years are still in great shape, I hope these can do that as well. I'm happy that Banedon put that site in this thread before he was ratted out to the man.

Stick it to the man!

Not a chance. Not sure who would, either.

I think we are coming to Temecula in 2 weeks to play a round. We haven't decided yet between Temeku, Red Hawk or Steele Canyon, but I'll be pushing for Red Hawk.

If the weather holds up, that is. It's been perfect golf weather the last few weeks. Another 10 degrees, and it might be time to take a summer break from the inland courses.

The golf weather has been REALLY good lately, although the wind has kicked up in the afternoon more then normal. There hasn't been a day over 100 in a week.

If I were you I would stay FAR away from Temeku. They are bankrupt and the rumor is that the government is taking control (might shut them down soon) so the condition is really poor. I golfed Red Hawk 2 weeks ago and it was nice. Pretty good shape but the greens were strange. Some were really fast others were extremely slow and there was not explanation. Quite frustrating.

If you have a chance, I would recommend Cross Creek. It is a little out of the way but a beautiful course and a chance to just have a relaxing but challenging round.

So I took my son to the driving range and all I had with me were my woods, wedges and my 2 iron because I stripped off my old grips and haven't had a chance to put the new ones on.

I haven't picked up that 2 iron in about 5 years but I teed up a few shots with it and low and behold I was actually able to hit it pretty well.

Life would be a lot easier if I could consistently hit any irons below the 5. At some point I'm going to have to get a hybrid.

I try to make it work with 3 and 4 irons. I go through stretches where they're solid, especially on the range. But then I'll hit one terrible shot on the course with them which always seems to lead to another one and then my confidence is shot.

Get yourself a Tour Edge Bazooka iron/wood. I have a 19 degree variant (2 iron) and it is glorious. I got mine at http://www.rockbottomgolf.com for $40.

I can hit it 225-250 with some control. I can hit it high, too.

It's comparable to most 3 woods, which I cannot hit to save my life.

I use my hybrid (iron / wood) as a utility club as well. It's good for getting out of the woods, hitting under tree limbs, etc.

Also, those pinemeadow sets can be customized to come with 3 and 4 iron hybrids. I saw a set of them at Academy sports and the hybrids looked solid.

So I played the back nine and it played pretty well. A few tough holes but some fun and enjoyable shots too. Come out soon

I just came through Hemet on my way back from a week long stay in Idyllwild. Geez, that town seems like it's getting bigger everyday. Interesting info on Temeku. Thanks for the heads up.

I used to tee off most par 4s with my old Hogan Apex 2 iron. It had a sweetspot about the size of a dime, but for some reason I always hit it well. Probably because I flat out knew that if I overswung it would be ugly.

Too bad someone stole it, along with my other clubs. :banghead:

Anybody ever hit the Orlimar irons? I can get a set of these new for about $50. I may keep them but mostly I'm trying to decide if I should switch to regular shafts and for that price I figure it can't hurt to just buy them and sell/ give them away if they're crap.

i'm playing the "square two" irons that my parents bought me in 9th grade. i'm also using my original putter, and a driver called "Harpoon" because my parents were too cheap to get me a Big Bertha when i asked for a new driver in high school.

Actually I got 3-4-5 hybrids with mine.

Haven't played in a few weeks unfortunately though.

Looking to improve my drive I talked to a guy at Golf Galaxy he mentioned I probably should change my shaft from a regular to stiff being that my swing speed usually tops 100.

Has anyone had any experience changing the shaft or know much about this.

Playing in a scramble this weekend, then another next month. I used to hate scrambles.

That's when I actually got to play all the time. Now I like them since I can still hit good shots, but have the touch of a blacksmith around the greens. I will help off the tee box, but someone on our squad better be able to putt.

I have fun in them just because it becomes almost like a team competition and everyone pulling for each other.

Yeah, I very much like that part. But, when I played my own ball all the time, we used to play 2 man Nasseaus (sp?) and that has a similar feel, just two guys instead of 4.

If you are properly swinging over 100 mph, you need a stiff shaft.

That's what she said.

I love scrambles. In fact, my very first experience with golf was a scramble. The only part I don't like is the shotgun start. I like to play holes 1-18 in that order, not really sure why.

We played a scramble last week and had a blast. There was a dogleg right around a lake on one hole. The first guy put a beauty in the fairway, so it was bombs away for the rest of us. I made it over the lake and we had a 15 foot chip for eagle. Unfortunately, we had to settle for a bird. Then I put another par 4 drive right on the green. We had a 30 foot putt for eagle. Unfortunately, we had to settle for a bird. I need guys with a better short game with me next time. [-(

Oh I love shotgun starts. Especially if you only have enough teams so it's one team per hole. Nobody is pushing each other...the whole thing flows great. But I could care less what order I play em in.

so, I have just got back into the game recently after 10 years of not touching a club(I caddied in high school and also played a tad bit)....I have taken some lessons which have helped and been out to the range..here is my issue...

I have really gotton precent decent with my driver(I can hit 240-260 consistently and somewhat straight)...but I am just terrible, I mean terrible with my irons....especially the low irons(2-4), I hit my 7 iron about as far as I do those...what could I be doing wrong? I can't can any distance and shank them most of the time.

Well the lowest ones are obviously the hardest to hit. I'm no expert, but I'll just say this: get hybrids.
