In other news, the Tigers will never trade with the Cubs again.

I wouldn't be so sure. What did the Cubs get for Jones that the Tigers would regret not having? If the Neifi perez trade didn't sour them on deals with the Cubs then nothing will.

The Cubs got rid of the obligation to pay Jones for being not good at baseball. The Tigers probably regret not having the money they have paid Jacque and will continue to pay him.

Didn't the Cubs geta comparably bad contract in return?

they got Infante in return whom they spun to Atlanta with Ohman for Ascanio. they paid $2M of Jones's 2008 salary, but I don't know that they're on the hook for any of Infante's or Ohman's

Thanks, I was drawing a blank on Infante. He's not someone the Tigers should miss.

Ascanio could be a contributor in the bullpen next year when Howry, Eyre, and possibly Wood leave via free agency. Could end up being a good trade for the Cubs.

He could be a contributor this year if the Cubs decide to trade Wuertz for value before the deadline.

I don't see Wood leaving Chicago, unless the Cubs no longer wants him. If Wood pitches well, I can't imagine them not wanting him back.

I would think they want him back, but let's say he saves 35 out of 42 or something like that. He would be in line for 3 years and at least 21 million from someone else. Would the Cubs be willing to go that far for Kerry? Because I think after making relatively nothing the past 2 years that the "hometown discount" time is over for Mr. Wood and the Cubs.

Then again, when you take out the combined 6-7 million that Eyre and Howry are making, I guess they could justify spending the money if they replaced those two with minor leaguers (Ascanio included in that mix).

If KW would go for 3/21 I would be esctatic. I mean you have Rivera/Wagner/Ryan/Cordero/Gagne/Nathan over $9 million per yr. Some are worth it, some are not, but if KW would take $7 mill per, I would gladly would sign him to that deal.
