The latest Cub$ purchase was the splendid Japanese outfielder, Fukudome, who signed for 4 years, $48 million over the winter. That contract went into the top-dollar file along with the previous deals for Alfonso Soriano ($136 million), Carlos Zambrano ($91.5 million), Aramis Ramirez ($75 million), Derrek Lee ($65 million), Ted Lilly ($40 million), Jason Marquis ($21 million) and Mark DeRosa ($13 million).

Lets play match the deal with a Cardinals equivalent!

Soriano: Pujols

Zambrano: Carpenter

Ramirez: Rolen

Lee: Edmonds

Lilly: Meh nothing here

Marquis: Mulder

DeRosa: Encarnation

to be fair the Cubs have $18 million more of payroll and 2 men on the DL ($4.2 Million). The Cards have 7 players on the DL ($26.4 Million). I'm amazed at what the Cards have done regardless of who they have played.

talks about how all the pressure in the world is on the Cubs with their outrageous payroll(8th in MLB) and how the Cards are the underdogs with their measley 10th ranked payroll.

If you are punching Bernie, at least you have the right idea to hit him in the face. If you punch him in the guy, you're likely to get stuck just like Brer Rabbit in dat tar baby.
