Cubs purchased the contract of RHP Chad Fox from Double-A Tennessee.

The 37-year-old hasn't pitched in the majors since 2005, and has undergone two shoulder surgeries since then. He didn't allow a run in four innings at Single-A Daytona, but gave up four runs in 2/3 of an inning at Double-A on Wednesday. Lou Pineilla apparently thinks he'd do a better job stabilizing the Cubs' middle relief than Neil Cotts or Sean Gallagher.

 

Cubs optioned RHP Kevin Hart to Triple-A Iowa.

Hart had gone 2-1 with a 5.06 ERA in 16 innings. He had a 16/10 K/BB ratio in that same period, and had allowed five runs in his last 2 1/3 innings. He'll work to improve his control in the minors, and could rejoin the team later this season.

WTF! He's like the 19th best option. Who was taken off the 40-man to make room for him? Why not wait 3-4 days for Eyre? This move is dumb.

While there may be better options, some of them should be in a rotation, not the bullpen.

 

The Cubs website list 39 names on the 40-man, including Fox and Guzman, who is on the 60-day DL.
