I hadn't clicked this thread before because I wasn't particularly interested in reading about Scherzer. Now that I see what it's turned into, I'm not particularly interested either. If you guys keep responding, he'll continue being a broken record. If you stop, or better yet put him on ignore like I have, he'll go away. It's that simply. But there's too many people that fall into his trap and allow him to continue repeating one of three posts he's made here over and over.

While I agree, ignoring posters is one feature mods do not have the ability to do.

I'm just hoping that ONCE, Wrigley23 reads one of my responses to him. Because if he actually read one, maybe he'd finally see the light.

I visited this thread because I also have Scherzer on my fantasy team. I watched him pitch. He does have an amazing fastball, but that's about it.

The more scouts get a read on him, teams are going to tee off on him if he doesn't start using his offspeed stuff more often. I'd say about 90 percent of his pitches last night were fastballs ranging between 93-98 MPH.

Nearly every hitter in MLB is in MLB because of how well they hit fastballs in the minors and now in the majors. It's an uphill battle if that's all you're going to throw, Mr. Scherzer.

Does his FB have any movement? I assume hes not able to locate it really well given his BB totals, but does he appear to be purposefully wild (nibbling) or does he just have no clue where the ball is going after it leaves his hand? Is he hitting where the catcher is setting up?

There was a little bit of movement and he actually appeared to have pretty good command. Because the movement wasn't dramatic, it suggested to me that he needed to nibble the corners a bit more, which in turn ran up the pitch count. Well, that along with getting tagged quite regularly.

Granted, that was the only time I've actually seen him pitch, so I'll have to wait and see what his fastball looks like against the Cubs later this week. His secondary pitches looked both weak and little used, suggesting to me that he isn't really all that confident in them, especially considering guys were sitting on the fastball.

His best out pitch last night was a high fastball, above the zone. He fooled a few guys into swinging at it.

Yeah, theres no way anyone could catch up to his heater up in the zone, but even if it looks good coming out of his hand, if he doesn't have a whole lot else to through, guys will guess it and lay off.

Tim and I had a long discussion about Scherzer before the start of the season, mainly because we're in the same fantasy league and we have minor leaguers and I have Scherzer. We both came to the agreement that without any decent secondary pitches, his ceiling is probably as a set up/closer.

This guy's name makes it sound like he should be playing chess or appearing in an adult film...hell, I guess he could be doing both.

Why are we talking about Alfonso Soriano in a thread about Max Scherzer's awesomeness again?

Maybe because I just traded Scherzer for Soriano in my fantasy league.

Thank you, Yahoo! hype machine.

Jesus H, how is that even allowed?

To be fair, the guy is in last place and it's a keeper league. I did throw in a decent draft pick.

Still, I'm obviously happy with the deal.
