Tennessee: RHP Justin Berg (0-3, 5.74 ERA, 15.2 IP, 4 K/3 BB, .333 BAA)

Daytona: RHP Esmailin Caridad (0-1, 8.38 ERA, 9.2 IP, 6 K/2 BB, .325 BAA)

Tennessee is facing Florida top prospect RHP Chris Volstad.

Justin Berg vs. Chris Volstad? Oh well, I guess the infielders can just take the day off then.

Rumors have it, Samardzija may be pitching in Iowa much sooner than any of you baseball brainiacs thought

Thanks Jeff!

...or Jeff's father!

...or Tom Zbikowski!

Currently...

Iowa's up 2-1 in the bottom of the 1st.

Tennessee is clinging to a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the 9th. Berg had a decent performance.

Daytona is up 7-3 in the 8th. Caridad also had a decent outing.

After being up 9-0, Peoria is now up 9-4 in the 4th after a Vitters fielding error and some shaky pitching from Acosta.

Campusano gave up a walkoff two-run homer in the 9th to send Tennessee to a 5-4 loss. Colvin finished 1/4 with a double and an RBI.

Daytona ended up winning 8-3. Russ Canzler had a two-run homer.

Peoria is only up 9-7 now in the 7th. Acosta's final line: 4 + IP, 9 hits, 7 runs, 2 ER, 2 K's/1 BB, 4 GO's, 4 FO's, 3 HR's given up. Vitters is 0/4 with a K.

Iowa trails 5-2 in the 5th. Holliman didn't make it out of the 5th: 4.1 innings, 4 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned, 2 K's/3 BB's, 2 GO's/7 FO's, 1 HR given up. EPatt is 1/3 with a triple.

Was listening to the Smokies game, Berg was just dancing in and out of trouble. His control was horrid. Imagine how good a prospect he'd be if his secondary pitches were servicable.

Also, in the fourth inning or so, Colvin made a sensational catch against the wall to rob Carolina of extra bases and made a heady throw back into the infield to limit the base runners from advancing. Glad to see his defense is up to par in CF.

Rough for Holliman and that's not even the best lineup that the 'Hawks can throw out there. No Arias, Salty, or Mench tonight. The back end of the Hawks pen is solid also, so its not looking good for the I-Cubs.

Good. He seems to get better every level he goes up.

Wow, Vitters makes Braun look like Rolen in his prime out there. I know it's early but if he keeps that up the OF might be in his future.

eh, this one wasnt really an error. the ball was hit about 50 feet, Josh charged bare-handed, threw and the runner was out, but the ump on the bases sucked tonight and called him safe and somehow they called it an error.

Acosta pitched better than it shows. Two of the homers never happen if he is out of the innings but errors cost him 7 unearned runs. Again, one of them was a brutal call by the ump on the bases who shouldn't even be doing 6th grade Legion ball. Can't wait to have him behind the plate Sunday. Someone in gray is gonna get run...guaranteed.

It might be anyway, since the Cubs won't have an opening at 3B for several years.

The Cubs don't have any corner openings for several years if you go by contracts.

I've got a feeling of deja vu. In 2002 I went to Mark Prior's last start before being promoted to Iowa; that game was at Carolina. Today I went to the game at Carolina that could be Samardzija's last start before being promoted to Iowa.
