Reading around some of AZ Phil's stuff, it seems like Oswaldo Martinez had Tommy John surgery last summer.

Roster moves: Corey Coles goes to Iowa from Tennessee to replace Eric Patterson. Matt Craig comes off the Tenn DL to replace Coles. Tennessee closer Michael Cooper goes to the DL with a pulled groin, RHP Rafael Cova will be called up from extended spring training to replace him.

AZ Phil at camp day in Fitch

  • Jim Henderson and Mark Pawelek threw simulated games; Henderson looked good while Pawelek was very wild.
  • In the intrasquad game, Jon Muller started and looked good. Arik Hempy followed him and was decent, flashing a good breaking ball.
  • Nelson Perez had two XBH. Dwayne Kemp and Leon Johnson each had a triple.
  • Vitters went 1/2 with an throwing error

Daytona won 1-0 in 10. Daytona had two hits in the game: one by Wyatt and one by Matulia. Palm Beach only had two hits as well.

Iowa lost 5-1. Another ugly game for the I-Cubs. Gallagher had a so-so outing: 6.2 IP, 7 hits, 3 runs, 5 K's/0 BB's, 13 GO's/2 FO's. Cotts' scoreless streak came to an end as he gave up two runs on two hits and two walks in an inning and a third. Murton went 0/2 with two walks. Fox was 1/4 with a double and a steal. Casey McGehee was 2/4 with a double and a RBI. Besides that, not much from Iowa.

Maestri with a really solid outing: 6 scoreless, 2 H, 4/1 K/BB.

Good day for both Europeans in the system. :D

(and yes, I know Kemp is from Aruba, but he plays for the Netherlands)

"So-So outing!!!! are you friggin kidding me or did you just look at the box score!!!! I was at the game and Sean was pretty much untouchable for the first six innings. Seventh inning was were he got hurt as he left pitches up but compared to his previous start this was a good outing. I was actually sitting behind a few scouts who were behind home plate and they were impressed. One of the scouts called his curveball "unfair" as he was buckling hitters knees and his velocity was between 90/96 FB. Also Inside the Ivy has a write-up on his start and actually a few Cubs front office folks were there and were very pleased with his performance.

Just looked at the box score, unfortunately.
