And this is not exactly an offseason issue, per se, but I also think that all players drafted in this year's draft should have to go into the draft next year, and not be subjected to the waiver wire.

We could do our own amateur draft at some point after MLB conducts their draft in June? We could do it via this message board or through the league message board. We could have maybe 3-4 rounds with each pick getting 24hrs. If no pick is made then that pick is forfeited.

So I'm guessing no one is interested in this and that when players are added to CBS Sportlines player database it will just be first come, first served?

No one has spoken out against it, and mine is the only vote one way or another so far. I am for having an amateur draft.

1 yes, zero no's so far.

I know you would be for it Hosak but no one else has put their two cents in. I think in order to do this and be fair we need at least 7 of 12 yes votes.

I think tonight I will post a poll on the league site since I know the two newbies don't have accounts here yet.

Looks like the league has voted in favor of having an amatuer draft. This will take place sometime after MLB has their amatuer draft on June 5th & 6th. (Monday, June 9th)

- It will be 5 rounds and the draft order will be the current standings at the time of the draft (based on 1.record 2.points). This draft will not snake.

- It is an optional draft. If you will not be participating please let me know before hand.

- Only players that have just been drafted or are not currently on the CBS database at the time of the draft are eligible. If a player is added to the database prior to the amatuer draft he is free game

- You will have the right to these players but they will not be added to your roster until they are added to the CBS database. We will keep a thread with the draft results of who took what players.

- The draft will be held here on these boards and each team will have 24 hours to make their pick. If you do not make your pick within the 24hrs, it will be forfeited. Please do not take the full 24hrs if not needed.

- The draft clock will start once I post the draft thread here on these forums. The draft will start Monday, June 9th unless anyone has an objection with that date.

I will be at a conference that Monday and Tuesday and won't have access to the site.

Will Thursday, June 12th work?

Sure, assuming the 24-hour rule is slightly flexible over the weekend. I assume I'd be about 3rd to pick.

I would hope that it wouldn't take 48 hours to make the first two picks.

I don't know how long it will take, but I do know that from Friday night through Sunday afternoon at the earliest I'll be out and about. If my pick is on the clock by midday Friday, no problem. But if it's up at 5pm Friday, I won't be around a computer.

Will there be a rule in place limiting the number of picks a team can make to the number of open spots he has on his minor league roster?

IF you want one of us to, you could surely send someone your "draft queue" and someone could make picks for you. It'd be much better than what happened to Goony for the draft.

I don't trust preranked drafts of any kind. I'm still under the assumption that one of you sneaky bastards purposefully drafted wounded relievers and backup middle infielders for me. I'll wait until the time comes. I may have the 1st pick by then anyway.

Wait a sec... are you Goony? Dude, you are like a phantom or something. I feel like I've just seen the Loch Ness Monster or the Yeti or something! ;)

Good question.....since the players will not be directly placed on a teams roster until they are added to the CBS database (only having "the rights" to the player) you could still carry 10 minor leaguers. At the time that they are added to the database, however, you will immediately have to open a roster spot or give up said draftee.

I think he's really Steve Bartman. ;)

Why can't this be a snake draft? You are pretty much penalizing the good teams who know how to build a winner.

This kind of reminds me of the "No Child Left Behind Act". I have to slow up my groove to make sure Bobby & Timmy can reach my status.....please?!?!?

As Kurt Vonnegut Jr. wrote in his book, Welcome to the Monkey House, "All Men are NOT Created Equal". I think we need to re-think the rules of this amateur draft and let me have the 1.12 & 2.1 pick in this draft.

Maybe for the first time, I agree with MM...

Really? You sound like Exxon/Mobil complaining that your profits aren't record breaking enough. :-({|=

Goony, it's not a preranked draft. It is going to be conducted here on these boards. If you give me a list of the players you want in order, if you are not around, I will pick the first available player for you from your list.

Don't know what happened...What is the tie-breaker?

As far as the draft order? It will be by record, then by points if the records are the same.
