Well back on topic:

http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2008/03/13/girardi-talks-it-over-with-duncan/

Joe Girardi said yesterday that if he saw a replay that showed what Shelley Duncan did was dirty, he would have a meeting with him.

Girardi and Duncan met this morning.

Duncan said later he didn’t want to talk about the meeting. Let’s see, 2 + 2 …

“We talked,” Duncan said. “Whenever you have private conversations with people you like to keep it between them.”

Duncan said he saw the replay. “When you do something, it never looks the same as what you thought you did,” he said. “So it didn’t look the same as what I thought I did.”

Asked whether he would do the same thing again, Duncan paused. “A lot of time situations don’t repeat themselves. … When you have a walk with the manager he’s going to give you things to learn from that’s right or wrong, whatever his viewpoint is. That’s what we talked about.”

So there you have it. The only question now is what sort of punishment MLB levies against the participants. Duncan and Jonny Gomes will likely be suspended.

I guess Girardi must have changed his mind.

"I saw it a couple times," Duncan said Thursday. "I still don't understand why they were as upset as they were."

Further proof you should never trust a man named Shelley

Duncan should get 5 Regular season games. Probably gets reduced to 2 or 3 on appeal. I like Duncan's energy but you can't make stupid, dirty plays.

Gomes should not be suspended at all. I think MLB will make him take a game, but he shouldn't.

If you do, at least don't hint about it a couple of days before.

Well, they play again today...

Here is a fun article from NY, especially comments from Hank Steinbrenner:

"I don't want these teams in general to forget who subsidizes a lot of them, and it's the New York Yankees , the Red Sox, Dodgers, New York Mets ," he said. "I would prefer if teams want to target the Yankees that they at least start giving some of that revenue sharing and luxury tax money back

He's going to be fun to watch when TB has a better record than the Yankees in '09.

I was just coming here to post that inane quote. Sometinmes I worry the Yankees are headed to another dark age, unless he learns from his fathers mistakes. He is a history buff so I hope he sees it and learns quickly.

I disagree with you about 09. I think the "Devil" Rays will continue to improve, but why will the Yankees be worse? I like our young pitchers and they will have another year of experience. Giambi and Moose will be gone. Damon and Matsui will be in the last year of their deals, so the could be dealt. Pettitte may or may not be back. I feel payroll will be lower and the team will be better next year. I can actually see them missing the playoffs this year and coming back much improved in 09.

They have a declining Matsui, Damon, Pettitte, & Rivera, you mentioned FAs leaving although losing Mussina will be a positive. Then, there will be that point when Jeter and Rodriguez start to decline, Jeter will be 35 at the start of '09. While they'll still be good, any regression combined with those losses is going to lead to a drop in runs. How much better are Cano and Cabrera going to be? Shelley Duncan is a below avg. 1B/DH type of guy.

FA just isn't as strong of an option as it used to be to retool a team.

While '09 is still a long ways away and NY definitely has the advantage to get better quicker thru spending money and more willing to add pieces thru top prospects, at this point, they will likely score a similar amount of runs in '09, TB's rotation will likely be better, IMO, and both pens will be below avg.
