I'm not at all sure how accurate this is, but it's my best guess. I know we have people here who are fluent in the language, or at least have a better knowledge of it than I do, so if I'm wrong please correct me, since I want to make sure I have it right as much as anyone else.

--Go small bears. Makes sense. I doubt if the word "cubs" translates into japanese very well. I think it would be cool to see banners at Wrigley (or should I say the Fuku-dome), that would say "Go Cubs Go" in japanese. I'm sure it would get alot of attention from the japanese media.

--Funny stuff! BTW, Ole Miss-- what does bonzai mean? I feel I should know this but at this particular time, I am experiencing a severe brain cramp. Ouch!

---I can see it all now. I finally get the opportunity to meet Kosuke Fukudome...so I bow and say Domo arigato mister roboto. domo. domo. Boku wa nihongo o hanasimasu (which I have no idea what that means). Bonsai! Yeah I know, it's time to get back to work.

I just know that it was something the Japanese would yell during WWII when they would do human wave charges. Not sure what it means.

Banzai: Japanese battle cry; means "ten-thousand years"

Bonsai: Japanese art of tree miniaturization; means "potted plant"

Then what's "bonzai?"

--Banzai! May the Cubs win the World Series for ten-thousand years!

It seems like they haven't won it in 10000 years. I must have winning soon.

I don't speak Japanese, however those are the characters in the Kanji (high) form. I'm fluent in Chinese and many of the characters are the same. However, I'm not sure what the 'popular' or common form of the words are. Or if more people use one form or the other.

I used the kanji characters partially because I saw the "small bear" characters used on this. I assumed, very possibly erroneously, that whomever designed the shirt had enough command of the language to know factually that it was the more common/accepted way to write "Cubs" in Japanese.

I also used the kanji because my command of the language is limited to a few common words and what my preferred online kanji dictionary can tell me; otherwise I can't speak, write or translate the language to save my life. :-#
