WGN 720 said earlier that the Indians will be playing in Progressive field next year after reaching a nameing rights agreement.

My Indians friend's reaction:

"Plus they should have insurance after some of the wrecks that have happened there."

If the Cubs ever decide to do this, how much good will could be bought if Wrigley paid for the rights to keep the name just as it is?

A bunch, I'll bet.

I like how some people's thoughts in the press are "Wrigley is getting a free ride" and what not, but I never ever associate Wrigley's Gum with Wrigley Field. To me they're entirely different entities. I don't buy Wrigley products because of Wrigley Field. That being said, I hope Wrigley buys the rights. I don't want the name to change. Besides even if it does there would probably be more of a backlash against whatever company puts their name on it.

If a company would buy the naming rights, and then just keep it named "Wrigley Field" just to keep the tradition alive, they would have a customer for life, even if I've never used their product or service before. I can guarantee you this would generate more publicity than if they'd just by the naming rights and name it after their company.

I agree. I always thought Wrigley Field was named for the original William Wrigley, not the gum company.

Wrigley Gum would only be getting a free ride if their were ads for their products all over the stadium but weren't paying for them
