Other decisions are pending. Officers of the Texas Baseball Coaches Association will meet today to decide if Clemens is still invited to the group's upcoming convention to speak on the topic "My Vigorous Workout, How I Played So Long."

"My gut feeling is that he probably won't speak," said Jim Long of Brenham, the association's president. "But we would never bad-mouth Roger Clemens.

"We think he's a top-notch individual who has done a lot for baseball. We're giving him the benefit of the doubt.

"However, we also want everyone to know that we're against steroids and will never be associated with them. We have to look out for our kids and our association, and we can't deviate from that."

I remember a couple of years ago when Kerry Wood was first having injury "issues." The talk was that he should consult with Roger Clemens and gain from his work ethic and training regimen. That was supposed to turn him around.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for the sports wing of a Houston hospital named for Clemens last year said it was "disappointed" Clemens is listed in the report.

Still, Memorial Hermann Hospital's Roger Clemens Institute for Sports Medicine and Human Performance has no plans to change its name, said the spokeswoman whose name, ironically, is Alex Rodriguez.

She quickly added, "Memorial Hermann strongly opposes the use of performance-enhancing drugs of any kind."
