I am going to get BMiles book, has anyone read that yet?
I have and enjoyed it. Good memories of Harry (the book covers his entire career, not just his years with the Cubs). And it does come packaged with a CD, even if Bruce himself doesn't realize that (see comments earlier in this thread). :D

Banks to Sandberg to Grace.

Yes, Muskat Love wrote it, but it's a fun book. It's simply Cub stories as told by the players. I recall Dunston have a particularly good story.

I seem to remember a funny one about Grace visiting the mound and overhearing a conversation between Zimmer and Sutcliffe. It was really quite good.

Oops. hit submit too soon.

I think you're talking about Sutcliffe giving up back to back homers and the pitching coach( who's name escapes me) coming out to the mound. Sut told him to get his fat *** back to the dugout, and he told Sut he just came out to give the fireworks guys a chance to reload. Grace said he blew a snot bubble out of his nose he was laughing so hard. Heard Grace tell that story somewhere, Dan Patrick show maybe??

I've read it too...its a real quick read (but good), the substance is in the CD.

Not a "stats" book but a very good series none the less.

The Mental Game of Baseball by Harvey Dorfman.

There are three other books that follow that deal with pitching, hitting, and coaching the mental game.

I also heartily second Weavers book.

Also not a stats book but if you want to have an interesting read find a copy of "Pitching in a Pinch" by Christy Mathewson.

So there's another witness to the fact that the book actually does come with a CD.

The author is always the last to know. :D

I just ordered some stuff from Amazon and now that I read this thread I'm mad that I forgot to include Weaver's book. That's been on my list for a while. Same with The Book, which will be arriving Wednesday. Apparently the new THT annual didn't ship, but I got that too and I'll report back if I remember. I read BBTN and THT 2007 around the same time and remember liking THT book quite a bit more. Some of BBTN seemed fairly uninteresting and didn't really pass the smell test if you ask me, though I'm no statistician.

I'm pretty sure Pat and Ron tell that story about once a year - and I laugh every time.

Ball Four is the best baseball book that I've read... I know it's not statistical, but it's just a great read. It's one of just a few sports books (maybe the only one) to be rated one of the best 100 books of all time.

agreed, I was going to say that if you're going to read only one baseball book, it should be Ball Four.

"Juiced" by jose canseco is also a guilty pleasure. Plus it's funny how many of his "outlandish allegations" have proven to be true.
