I don't disagree here. This deal makes them better for 2008. But I would argue 2009 and beyond they would have been better off holding on to Young.

It all depends on who if any develop next year in RF (Gomes will be a DH), you have Baldelli, Dukes, Guzman and Ruggiano as likely candidates at this point. Of course, the #1 overall prospect in the '08 is Pedro Alvarez, who is a 3B, but has tools to shift to the OF.

TB has a safety in numbers as far as pitching prospects, the poss. of Kazmir, Shields, Garza, Niemann, Sonny, etc for next year. With Price, McGee, Davis, Hellickson, etc. coming up the pipeline.

Bartlett hits like Theriot, but unlike Theriot has the range and arm to add value to the SS position.

Morlan projects to be a cloesr/set-up, I believe he was ranked 4th in Twins system.

Reading this thread has made me realize how deep and talented the Rays minor leagues are, and will be in the future.

I sure hope they all pan out so that there will be some competition against the Yanks and Red Sox in that division. Heck, even if half of them pan out they should have an awesome team really soon.

Its to bad nobody cares for them down there, and their stadium is the worst in the bigs.

If Morlan was going to be any good, the Twins would have never given him up.

That Santana guy sucks.

And what is your point? Did they Twins deal Santana when he was in the minors. My point is that the Twins have probably the best scouting in baseball, and have a good idea of Morlan's ceiling in the majors.

Actually, the Rays are known to have some of the best scouts around as well as the Twins.

Heh.

Can't argue with the results in their farm system, though.

Tim Wilken: In some cases it’s organizational philosophy. I had a unique thing in Tampa, and I knew when I got there that their philosophy was along the same lines as Toronto’s. There are pretty good scouts in a lot of organizations, and I found out that Tampa might have as good (a group of) area scouts as any team in baseball. If you look at their system, there’s a lot of great talent, albeit young talent.

This is why the Rays are stupid.

Why? They're overloaded in prospects anyway. Now if they could get the return that people were talking about for Santana(Kershaw, Kemp, and Loney lets say) then yeah sure I'd pull the trigger but that would be Kazmir-Zambrano bad for the Dodgers. Crawford is the type of player the Rays need(i.e. proven success, not just potential) and he means more to the team than he would wherever he'd be dealt. I don't see how dealing Crawford for 2 or 3 decent to very good prospects makes the team better now or in the future.

Anybody know what the big message board is for the Rays? I remember seeing it about a year or so ago with very lively activity and I'm interested to see their perspective on the deal.

Thanks.
