The Yankees and Jorge Posada have agreed to a four-year, $52 million contract.

 

Those tricky Yankees. If they were lying about not re-signing Posada or Mariano Rivera tonight, maybe they're preparing a $350 million offer for Alex Rodriguez at this very moment. Posada always figured to stay in the Bronx, and while giving a four-year contract to a 36-year-old catcher certainly isn't ideal, the Yankees really had no other choice but to pay up. The Mets will probably end up re-signing Paul Lo Duca now, though they could still check in on Ramon Hernandez's availability first.

Contract is too long, but I agree that he can always slide to 1st base and DH. He will DH often anyway to stay fresh.

 

I think Rivera is the more important of the two. Wish Cashman would have given him the 4/40 it would have taken at the beginning of last season. Relieves cost to damn much now. I remember yelling at the thought of giving Wettland $5M per after '96.
