Dempster for Maybin and call it a day. :D

No way. Tigers would have to add Verlander to the deal or it's not worth it for us.

After thinking this over, I am 100% convinced that Dempster moving to the rotation is not about Dempster, or Marquis, or Marshall.

It's all about Kerry Wood. They're negotiating with him. They want him back. He wants to come back, but he wants to be assured of a larger role. Thus, they had to free up the closer role for him. Thus, the odd timing.

It's all about bringing Wood back; nothing more. I bet they're shopping Dempster hard. Luke Scott, I say.

Maybe the Monroe deal helped build a relationship here and it can be a win, win for both teams.

I can't believe that did anything more than help make up for them taking Neifi off our hands! We owed them one.

It does allow them to include sizable bonuses for "games finished", which is what I think teams give potential closers as bonuses.

I think he may have had that in last year's contract, actually. The thing is that now that he's actually pitching, he expects the opportunity to finish games. Removing Dempster from the role had to be done right now to convince Wood he'd get that opportunity.
