Let's face it, he ain't gonna play in Chicago. What do you think Murton could bring either alone or in combination with others? Conversely, will Hendry keep him and use him as a bench player until he reaches free-agency?

I never thought Murton would work in RF, but doesn't have as weak of an arm as I thought - or at least I was impressed with some of his throws from RF last season. I know Cliff Floyd said last month on the Mike North Show that he was "50/50 on returning to the Cubs, depending on what they wanted to do with Murton." The fact that Floyd is gone makes me think that maybe Murton is going to get a chance, or something else.

I hope that something else is Fukudome.

I think Murton could help a lot of teams, including the Cubs. He can hit lefties, which the Cubs need. I still think he would be a good #2 hitter because of his OB potential.

Tough call.

I don't think trading Murton, by himself, would really bring that much in return.

Murton packaged with others would bring more, but it would be more dependent on who the "others" are I believe.

I'm a big Murton fan, but it does look like he is going to be the odd man out again. Package Murton with Marshall/Gallagher plus another prospect and you should get something interesting from certain teams.

He's not gonna fetch us much regardless, and would only really appeal to a few organizations who value his youth + OBP. If we can sign a masher to play RF, I'd have no problem packaging him with some prospects to get an impact player (possibly at SS), but otherwise I'd rather us just stick him in right and let him play for once. His value to us as a full-time outfielder is probably more than what he could fetch via trade on his own.

Channelling Hendry here...to the Giants for Randy Winn.

Channeling Brian Sabean here... Murton's way too young.

Agreed. I'm not a huge Murton fan but I think over the course of a full season he can put up a .780 OPS and play league average right field defense. Since he has little trade value indeed I think he's worth more to us on the field than in trade.
