If you changed your name to Sunshine McRainbow you wouldn't draw so much attention.

How about "Hollywood Meph"

Or Crystal Meph...

that was the name of one of my fantasy teams on nsbb

(Looks at first post of this thread)

The math was easy, but now I'm confused.

SOS = Strength Of Schedule

Lord, that was fascinating how you used your incredible math skills to come up with this power rating. One question.. does this formula include pitching? If it did, I would be curious how the Yankees (with a below average pitching staff) would wind up number two, ahead of Cleveland (who has a very good pitching staff).

it uses RS and RA. I probably should have scaled Rs and Ra, but I did not. The whole idea that pitching wins championships and games really is overblown.

Thank You

Baseball Discussions is way more fun when Meph isn't banned

tell that to the jury...(the mods)

Remember, though, it's the jury that voted to grant you parole. :D

Well, this is pretty much a lose-lose situation for you.

i was asking huber because of his skepticism of the model

No skepticism at all. While I am sure that there is value to what you posted (and that the math is correct) I read that there are conclusions that are based on opinions of the stats presented. Certainly it is an interesting opinion and one that has merit but not any more merit then the scout that has been working in baseball for 30 years. i would treat both opinions the same, very credible. But I would also draw my own conclusions based on the information that both situations offer.

You go ahead and ask a scout to give you some power rankings and I bet this model would be more accurate.

I don't think you're paying attention to what this thread is about. Come to think of it, why did you even mention scouts in the first place? Because of all the math? Jesus.

My point is that who is to say that this is more accurate? Wouldn't that be an opinion. My mention of scouts is merely pointing out the difference of opinion. Why is my post resulting in frustration? All i was merely pointing out is that someone can develop a different opinion from the same information. Sorry that all don't assimilate

who's to say it's more accurate?

why don't we test it out. Okay? Halfway through the season next year you get a scout to rank the teams, Ill use this and see which is more accurate in the second half.

Its going to be this by far, an FYI.

If you want to see how pitching factors in you can take a look at KC and TB. While TB most likely has a tougher SOS than KC and scored 82 more runs than them, they allowed 166 more runs, knocking them decently below the Royals in Mephs ranking.
