Turned down a 13 million dollar deal. Is he still thinking of going back to Atlanta and pitching there for a year before retiring? Or has there been speculation that he's just going to retire this year? I personally can't see him hanging them up after his last start, he's had too great of a career to go out like that.

i think he said it is atlanta or bust, or that is what i heard anyway

He did mention that it's not about the money right now. He wants to be close to his family.

I hope it's not about hte money for him because he's not seeing $13 million elsewhere.

I'll say... On an unrelated note, anyone know how far away Scott Eyre's familiy lives from Chicago?

I'd say its about 75/25 he goes to ATL. I hope that doesnt get in the way of the Marshall for Renteria trade I'm hoping for.

why not? I like the Marshall for Reyes trade MUCH MUCH better

The Marshall for Renteria trade, however, is like... possible.

Especially if Atlanta needs to clear payroll to sign Glavine.

There was supposed to be an article in today's Atlanta Journal Constitution, where the writer claims Glavine would agree to a "discount" to return to the Braves. However, giving that discount would still require Atlanta to move a salary. Haven't seen the link yet.

Is Glavine still the player rep for the players' union? I think that might preclude him from taking too drastic a 'discount' even if he wanted to (like when he signed with the Mets over the Phillies, I believe).

I'm guessing he'll sign for around 8M.

Thats a good point about the Braves having to clear salary. They are dropping 13.5M from Andruw. Tex is probably going to eat up about all of that. Huddy increases 7M, Smoltz increases 6M.

I assume Dotel will decline the 5.5M option, and even if he doesn't the braves can still void it.

Thats pretty much all of their major differences since most of their players are pre-arbi. So basically, they need to clear 13M to keep their salary around the same, NOT including Glavine.

Renteria has to go and he has to go for a pre-arbi player(s).
