Somewhat off topic but I need some help.

When would the NLDS start, regardless of who we play? Also, would we be playing at Wrigley Saturday or Sunday?

Plans are fully underway. No tickets and a 3-year old in tow. Bring it on.

NLDS is set to start on Wednesday. Games 3 and 4 are scheduled on Saturday and Sunday at Wrigley.

Sorry, I've been drinking all day, so my brain is kinda mush, but, am I right in saying that regardless of how the other divisional/wildcard races play out, the Cubs will host games 3 & 4 on Saturday & Sunday, & that we'll be playing the NL West winner?

If the Phillies or Mets win the NL East then we would play the East winner

That can't be accurate, because those are the only two teams that can win the East. The first part of that statement is already 100% guaranteed to happen.

Oops

It should say, if the Phillies and Mets both make the playoffs, we play the NL East winner.

can't believe things are so up in the air with ONE day left.

If San Diego beats the Brewers tomorrow, then the Wild Card will come out of the West, as will the team with the best NL record. The WC can't play a team in their division in the first round, so the winner of the West will play the division-winning team with the worst record, which will be the Cubs. The only way this doesn't happen is if the Padres lose and Mets/Phillies win, because then there would be a tie for first in the NL East and a tie for the Wild Card. I don't feel like thinking about what would happen after that b/c it would probably give me a headache.

Ah.. got it. I should've been smart enough to figure that out myself, but I'm still pretty hungover.

whomever the Cubs play in the NLDS they are going to win in either a sweep or 4-1....

This is the best team in the NL since June 20th and tied for the best since June 1st.

The question will be how they play at the next level.

If the Rockies, Mets, and Phillies all win and San Diego loses we will have a tie for the division in the East and a 4 way tie for the wild card.

So I would guess the Mets and Phillies would play for the divison with the Padres and Rocikes playing for a chance to play for the wild card with the winner playing the loser of the Mets-Phillies to win the wild card.

my bad, Arizona has won the West b/c if SD wins tomorrow, even if Arizona loses the #1 seed and WC come out of the West, and Arizona has the tiebreaker.

The only way the Cobs don't play Arizona is if SD loses tomorrow while the Mutts and Phils both win, and then SD loses the free-for-all that would be played Monday/Tuesday.

Not exactly. First, the Mets-Phillies play on Monday for the NL East. Then, the loser of that would go into a 3 way playoff with the Padres and Rockies. The Rockies would get to choose if they want 1 road game or 2 home games. They probably decide to have 1 road game, so the Mets-Phillies loser would play the Padres on Tuesday. Then, the Rockies play the winner of that game on Wednesday. The playoffs would then begin on Thursday, with the Cubs either traveling to Arizona if one of the West teams win the wildcard or the NL East winner if the other East team wins the WC.

Here's the simpler version of that:

Monday: Mets/Phillies

Tuesday: Monday loser vs Padres

Wednesday: Tuesday winner vs Rockies

Thursday: playoffs begin

Ah, o.k., so the only thing for certain right now is that we'd host games 3 & 4 on Sat & Sun.... I think....

No, if the 4-way logjam of DOOM scenario happens (Rockies hang on tonight; Rockies/Brewers/Mets/Phillies all win tomorrow), game 3/4 will be on Sunday/Monday presumably. Although I suppose if the Wed game is Padres/Rockies they could go ahead and start the DBacks/Cubs series on Wed and that series would be on normal schedule.

I hope it doesn't get that far.

So MLB would have to push-back the start of the NLDS from Wednesday to Thursday?

That would totally screw me because I am counting on the Cubs hosting Game 3 on Saturday night.

Same here. I desperately want the Cubs to host a game on Saturday b/c I plan to be there if that's the case.

I just realized that the Chicago Marathon is next Sunday during the day. The marathon goes all over the city and even is run all the way up to Addison, with all the streets blocked off. Pretty tough to have the marathon and the Cubs game going on at the same time, so I'm guessing the Cubs game will be the late game on Sunday.

who won the season series between the Padres and Diamondbacks?

The Diamondbacks won the season series, so they've clinched the division with the SD loss today.

I'm sure all Cubs games will be primetimes anyway...

I'm gonna hate the 10 PM ET starts in Arizona though...

Padres need to win so I can stop being so nervous. If they actually still throw Tomko at the Brewers I'm gonna be really pissed.

Why wouldn't they? It makes not sense to bring Peavy on 3 days rest to clinch the playoff spot when they can put Tomco out there and hope for help so they can use him for Game 1 of the NLDS. Worst case they get to use Peavy on full rest for a tie breaker.

By the way, this quote makes me want to have the Cubs play AZ in the first round:

"Everybody will get a little work (Sunday)," Melvin said late Saturday in previewing his plans for the final day of a season that could produce chaos of historical proportions. "But Chris Snyder has had a bad wrist, so he's going to get the day off. Augie Ojeda has had a bad back and he's going to get the day off.

He is resting Augie for the playoffs? Bring him on!!
