Whether Patton will prove to be the team's ace of the future remains to be seen, but that future starts Saturday when the 21-year-old makes his Major League debut against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Minute Maid Park.

"He's got the tools to be a very good Major League pitcher," Astros manager Phil Garner said. "I know a lot of people are wanting to see what he can do at this level."

The highly touted 21-year-old lefty was 4-2 with a 4.59 ERA over eight starts for Triple-A Round Rock. Patton struggled in his two most recent outings, allowing six runs over five innings on Aug. 19 and four runs over six frames on Aug. 14. Prior to those games, however, he threw seven shutout innings on Aug. 8 and allowed two runs over seven frames on Aug. 2.

lefty with no mlb experience... If I was the Astros I'd save his debut for the Cubs to build the young man some confidence.

I hope he does well enough since he's on my fantasy team (unless I trade him :P). But HoustonAstros.com needs to get its head checked - a future ace? Patton could be a 2-3.

If that, most people thought he might be an ace three years ago. But, he doesn't have the same velocity now. I wouldn't be suprised to see him become a 4, just an innings eater.

Lefty, no mlb experience, and his velocity is down. Sounds like he is a Cub killer for the next 10 years.

He's currently listed as the probably opener for the series opener against Marshall. He'll solidify his major league career in 8 short innings.
