Murton with an rbi double and 2 walks on the night. I'm glad he's getting the playing time now. The Soriano injury could be a blessing in disguise.

Soriano was keeping our starters together with his psychic powers though.

Dare I say it, he's looking comfortable up there. It's amazing what same playing time will do....

Don't jinx him now. Shhhh.

he's singled and walked tonight. let's not crucify him for striking out looking. i'd rather he look at strike 3 than swing at ball four.

Well....he looked at strikes 1 and 2 as well.

so? i don't see how that matters. reds pitchers walked what 4 cubs that inning, a very difficult task.

So it would be nice to see our slugger take the bat off his shoulder at least once per at bat.

i don't see what he could have done with any of those pitches. they were pretty much perfect. it's not like he looked at 3 down the middle. he was looking for a mistake over the plate, tip your cap to santos, he's good for a series of pitches like that maybe once every 20 appearances.

Hey, I'm not hammering on him like some do on here, I'm just saying that I think he should have been looking to protect the plate on that count and in that situation. Anything close, and that was close enough, and he should be swinging trying to stay in there. They were good pitches, but all 3 strikes were put in the exact same spot. At some point, he needs to swing just to try to keep the inning alive.

that was a terrible call.

Agreed. At least a couple inches off the plate. Wendelstedt must have a date or something after the game.

Maybe he took the under on 14.

protecting the plate is for hitters like eckstein. i want lee to look for a pitch he can drive and then try to drive it. if the pitcher makes some lucky pitches, whatever.

looking for something to just put in play does nothing to keep the inning alive. hitting a dribbler to conine ain't going to do it, he has a better chance at getting a walk than doing anything with those pitches.

Wouldn't be funny if he had of reached and then someone came up and hit a 2-run dinger.

Hilarious.

I would have laughed because it means the Cardinals are closer.

It would be a tragic comedy, something we're all familiar with.

Not sure I really wanna see Lilly go just yet... seems to have found a bit of a groove.

As weird as it to say that and hear it said, considering its a 7-6 game going to bot 5.
