Trib article says Floyd's Dad got to see him play one last time on June 29.

Wasn't that the day A-Ram hit the walk-off to beat Milwaukee?

I'd love for my last game to be that great.

Yea he was brought to Wrigley in an ambulance to watch.

Condolences to the Floyd family. After something like this how long is a player usually on the bereavement list. I know it depends on the person, but for people who have seen this before?

No less than 3days, no more than 7 days.

After Floyd's Dad gets better, Cliff will need another week of bereavement leave for the death of his power.

All class.

Oh get off your high horse. I made no comment about his dad other than hoping he'd get better.

I'm not going to question the intent of your post (only you know that), but it came out very bad. It was very obvious that he wasn't going to get better; in fact, he was undoubtedly already dead when you made your post (Laura's post mentioning the announcement of his death came less than 10 minutes after your post, and it certainly takes more than 10 minutes before a death is announced publicly). Your post came off as a potshot at Cliff during a time of personal tragedy. It's certainly valid to complain about his loss of power, but this thread isn't the proper place for that.

I don't know I thought it was kinda funny actually. I mean it sucks that his dad died, but that doesn't mean you're not alive.

Its a deeper issue than just this thread. There's been sort of trend in the direction of mocking the dead around here lately.

Really? I haven't noticed that trend at all.

And he wasn't mocking Floyd's father.

Perhaps I should be more specific - moking the dead and those who mourn the loss. The trend seemed to peek a couple of months ago, IIRC.

The last time I remember the issue being raised was when Hancock died. I think that's consistent with the time frame you mentioned.

Hancock killed himself driving drunk and stupid, Beck killed himself because he drank too much and did too many drugs. Those deaths are open to mockery in a place far away from family/friends.

Floyd's father's death? Not so much. I don't like Floyd the player too much, but I have nothing against him or his father as a person, so hopefully the leave gives him enough time to cope and come back and help the team.

OR, he could just give up on baseball :D

You know where I stand on this one. I think in gen. its in poor taste to make fun of people who meet an untimely demise, no matter the circumstances. If you or anyone else thinks I need to "lighten up", so be it.

That wasn't mocking.

Honestly, please don't engage me in convo if all you (or anyone else) intend to do is parse semantics. I am really sick of it.

What's wrong with making light of a situation many of us have a difficult time facing? In a lot of ways it is a coping mechanism. Numerous times I have personally made light of tragedies in my family. It's what I do. When others do it, I don't see it as disgusting.

Secondly, unless you truly know a person, not what your perception of this person may be, you can't state that you fully understand the loss. This is the internet. Everyone will say they have been in a similar situation, so they feel depressed, sad, or whatever. What relevance does it really have to your everyday life? At this point very little unless you were speaking to the deceased on a regular basis, or actually knew them on a personal level. Get over it. I still give kudos on the joke.

It's a potshot at Cliff's power, not Cliff. I honestly didn't know his Dad was in that much trouble, and I didn't think the comment was that offensive.

But now that I realize some people found the post offensive, I will say that I am sorry I posted it. I don't hang around trying to find ways to offend people, despite how that post may have looked.

Well said. Fo rmy part, I get it, it just happens that my opinion differs from yours on this issue. To each his own.
