Marquis has one good start and all of a sudden he's carrying the team?

I'm guessing he was referring to Jason Kendall

I'm pretty sure he was..... but as long we're talking about Marquis.... ya know he's started 3 of our last 10 wins ??

Man, these 2 were about to be dragged out of Chicago, and now they've been carrying the team. As long as they can keep it up while Ram and Fonz are out, anything they do after that point is OK by me.

Isn't there someway you could shrink your avatar? I know there are suggested limits and this can't possibly be within them.

Ya, it was getting really annoying but all of a sudden today it's not stretching out the pages. :)

Everyone else seeing it fine?

Players like this HAVE to step up when the key players are hurt in order for a team like the Cubs to be competitive. Is there a stat that shows how well a hitter does when a key player is out with an injury? The Cubs have lost Lee, Ramirez and Soriano to the DL/suspension and still have stayed within striking distance of making the playoffs, that's a good sign IMO.

Murton has hit well--now he has to start hitting with men on base rather than bases empty.

And when he starts hitting with men on base, are we going to be upset that his HRs don't clear the fence by as much as you'd like them too? From the guy who said we were all nit-picking in trying to find something Murton did well (re the cut-off man debate), I guess I shouldn't be surprised that 2 HRs in 2 days isn't enough.

I hope you're not the Pman from the IlliniBoard, because if so, I just lost respect for you in a huge way.

No ballplayer on the entire earth can decide when in the game he gets his hits, and you're also forgetting what has to happen to create the vaunted RISP situation. Here's the answer: someone has to be on base first! Murton's ability to do that makes rallies and RISP situations happen more often.

Also, on a team as OBP light as ours, runners on base is a rarity, so our batters do not get as many chances with runners on as others do. Sometimes you don't get the chances even if a great OBP threat is present before you in the lineup.

For instance, Murton has hit two bombs in 2 games now. Lee bats ahead of him, with his muscular OBP, but Lee wasn't on base either time he hit them. Even if Matt hits them to start an inning, Lee still made the previous third out to rob Matt of the opportunity to hit with a man on base.

So you see, its really the Cubs' responsibility to be on base for any particular hitter to generate RBIs, including Matt Murton.

he is the same guy, and while i haven't lost respect for him, i question his theory on that as well.

hitting with runners on base isn't a skill, it's an occurrence.
