i read an article somewhere that david wells bought a ball signed by ruth, got it signed by aaron, and had bonds sign it last week. that'd be a pretty cool piece to have.

 

I wouldn't spoil a Ruth autograph like that (not that I don't like Aaron).

 

But I guess Boomer is rich enough that he can have a Ruth ball that is just Ruth, etc.

 

Still, though, that would be a pretty kickass ball to have. That's for sure a one-of-a-kind.

still...ruth balls are surprisingly common for how long ago he played. the ruth/aaron/bonds ball is truly one of a kind, and i'd have to guess that it would be one of the most valuable signed balls on earth.

Think of how many times you've seen the clip of Hank Aaron's record breaking home run. I'm not putting Bonds hit on par with 9/11 or the moon landing, but I'm saying that whether you like it or not, this was a historic night. I honestly thought the video was going to be from Selig. Hank Aaron threw me for a loop. It was a classy gesture by Hammerin' Hank to congratulate Bonds, even if he didn't mean a word of it.

It's a shame it had to come to this. Barry could have been remembered moderately fondly as one of the best hitters of his generation, but he had to taint his career and the best record in sports.
