I just heard this myself.

Interesting to say the least. I know he has played well at Iowa. But, I'm thoroughly surprised by this move.

I'm guessing this means lots of OF play for DeRosa and Fontenot and Patterson at 2b.

So we would rather play a 2B in RF than bring up a guy hitting .360+ who happens to have a plus glove and speed??? E-Pat won't even get playing time over Fontenot, so I just don't understand this move.

Thanks!

The Cubs are expected to call up Eric Patterson from Triple-A Iowa and place Alfonso Soriano on the disabled list Monday.

Patterson was batting .299 at Triple-A Iowa with 14 homers, 23 doubles, 62 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. He has primarily hit leadoff all season, batting .300 in the No. 1 spot in the order with a .365 on-base percentage.

Patterson, 24, began the season as a second baseman, but has played the past 10 games in the outfield in both left and center.

Maybe he will leadoff?

The Cubs see it as he's a leadoff guy. The others are not.

Maybe not. That article says he's been playing the OF. They could stick him in LF or CF.

If he doesn't leadoff, what's the point?

I didn't know that. So, it's for leadoff purposes. But, I wonder how much playing time he gets.

Well, they could have Riot leadoff and EPatt hit second because he has more power than Ryan (but better plate discipline than Sori). However, I wouldn't be surprised to see him leadoff.

PLEASE PLAY MATT MURTON AS WELL.

I know it won't happen.

Also, what is up with Pie? I thought he was badass recently.

I was thinking the same thing. Plus, I was surprised to see that EPatt had played some CF in Iowa. I thought that was Felix's domain. Maybe it was only on his days off...

Anyway, I think it's smart that they moved EPatt to the OF because there's a logjam at 2B and he isn't the best defensive second baseman anyway.

Anyone know how he looks in the OF?

The only position he should see more than limited time is CF if he can play that well enough.

LF:Murton>EPatt

RF:Dero/Floyd>EPatt

2b:Dero>EPatt

Maybe some limited times at 2b over Fontenot, but Fontenot doesnt need to sit the bench to get EPatt everyday starts.

The other thing that makes this peculiar is that, by promoting him, he would now need to pass through waivers to be traded. That wasn't true yesterday.

It's not peculiar if the Cubs have no intentions of trading him.

He needs to play every single day. If not, this is stupid.

Barring an injury to Pie, I think this is stupid in any event....

True.

Well so does Murton. So we can guess that maybe he won't. If you ask me you've gotta give kids like Murton, Pie, Patterson the majority of the at bats over guys like pagan, floyd, and jones. You use those 3 if they happen to have good carreer #'s against a certain pitcher. But that's not how this team thinks. . If it were me. .

Theroit SS

Patterson 2B

Lee 1B

Ramirez 3B

Derosa RF

Jones CF

Murton LF
