Although, I don't know if Hendry would be too keen. Gomes literally cannot catch the ball. (Although, I wouldn't have a problem with it)

You keep using that word, I do not that it means what you think it means.

Inconceivable!

Anybody want a peanut?

that line makes me laugh much more than it should.

Cornelius Clifford Floyd

Theres a difference. One can't move, one can't catch the ball.

How can you catch the ball if you can't move to put yourself in a postion to do so?

Good scouting...if its hit directly at you. :D

Ohh God, obviously its a hyperbole. Listen, I don't care how bad he would be on defense, I'd be for him. But he has a reputation as a hack in the field and I think Hendry wouldn't be so interested in him because of that. Thats all I was trying to say.

I know what you were trying to say, as does everyone else. But, it annoys me when people use literally when they obviously don't mean it and so I decided to quote a line from a funny movie that somewhat applied. It's not a big deal, but it's not like I called you stupid or accused you of not knowing what literally meant. In fact, my comment wasn't mean spirited at all.

Gotcha. I apologize. Rumors of Carlos Silva and Pie for Laird and the such have made me irritable.

No problem - I was just trying to keep the mood light w/ a quote that many people usually enjoy. Heck - I even had a law school professor once say "inconceivable...in the Princess Bride sense."

I have a feeling they'd ask a lot for him

They have a glut of outfielders and nowhere to put Gomes, though. Something tells me he could be had at a reasonable price.

I've cooled off on Gomes in terms of his potential. He's basically Adam Dunn Lite. If you dislike Dunn, odds are you won't like Gomes. If you like Dunn, Gomes could be seen as a reasonable alternative who might come more cheaply than Dunn.

Given his power and production against LHP, I'd love to have him on this team. Why not make a run and see what he can be had for?

Only 59 ABs, but vs lefties this year:

.339/.388/.593

101 ABs last year:

.297/.438/.614

I have a feeling they'd ask a lot for him

They just demoted him. You could get him for a good arm and a bullpen arm.

Why did they demote him? Why isn't this deal done?

He's apparently available for very little right now.

That said, I could live with a Baldelli type, but I'd really rather add a big old power bat to this lineup to hide our OBP deficiencies that we refuse to fix in the smallest fashion.

The biggest hurdle is that Baldelli will cost much much more than Gomes, but that's probably because he's a better player probably, unless Gomes can drive the OBP back up.

Hmmm, curious considering he's on the 25 man roster at the D-Rays site.

Busting chops, new thing.

I think you're mistaken. I don't see anything anywhere.

Yeah, I suck at life. My bad. He's not been sent down. I don't know what I was looking at.

Someone posted the same thing in one of the other transactions threads that discussed Gomes. Can't remember which thread - but that might have been where you read it.

Not having seen much of either myself, PECOTA disagrees with you.

I guess I believe them.

I'd rather have Church, but would settle for Gomez.

Why/how do you think is Church better?

Better hitter IMO, almost equal power (slight edge to Gomez), better BB:K, and can play CF. Think Church will benefit more from a change of scenery.

FOr some reason, I wasn't even thinking about CF...
