Indianapolis Indians (Pirates AAA) vs. Charlotte Knights (WSox AAA)

The Knights won 3-2 on an RBI single in the top of the 9th, and DAVID AARDSMA came in to save the game

Anyway, here are some things I picked up from the game:

-there was a scout there checking out the Knights, particularly the starting pitcher Heath Phillips.

-Ryan Sweeney is a big baby. He went 1-5 with a K and cried like a little baby after he K'd.

-The Indians manager can't argue for crap. There was a play early in the game where an Knights player was running to first base after a swinging bunt up the first base line. An Indians defender picked up the ball (It was the 1b I think) and tried to tag the Knights runner as he went by, but very clearly missed the tag by about 4 inches. So the manager came out to argue and stayed out there, just standing there for about 10 minutes (no lie, he was out there forever) with his arms crossed. Either get ejected or sit your rear end down.

-That Heath Phillips guy can't hold runners to save his life. People were running on him right and left.

-David Aardsma throws really really damn hard. According to the radar gun he was hitting 95/96 but it seemed much faster than that.

-Juan Perez, a reliever for the indians, has a really live fastball. He was pounding it up there at 93/94/95 without much effort. He struck out two in his one inning of work (but also walked two).

-The umpire was TERRIBLE. Holy crap, I mean he was bad. I was sitting right behind the plate and had a real good view of the plate and the pitches being thrown. The poor pitchers (on both teams) would throw 3 pitches in a row in the exact same spot and 2 would be called balls and one would be called a strike.

-Darin Erstad is not good at baseball. He went 0-4 with 3 K's and a walk and he looked completely lost in the process. He did hit one ball solidly but it only made it to the RF warning track.

-Finally, I'm really upset that Jose Hernandez was benched, I wanted to laugh at him.

EDIT: I suck at typing.

I went to a Frederick (O's High A) vs Winston-Salem (WS High A) game this past Saturday and the ump was horrible. First he calls a W-S guy out on a play much like yours with a swinging bunt down the first base line that the Fred. pitcher fielded and then had to dive for the tag because both the firstbaseman and the secondbaseman broke for the ball, despite the fact that it looked like the pitcher missed, and then on the first play of the top of the next inning, the first baseman for W-S fielded a ball and clearly tagged the Frederick runner, but the runner was called safe. The W-S manager argued and managed to get the call reversed after bringing in the homeplate ump.

Later in the game, on what was a tailor made double play ball to short, the SS for Winston-Salem underthrew the ball to 2B, causing the 2nd baseman to misplay it and have it come out of his glove, the runner slid in, clearly safe because the ball was on the ground, but the ump still called him out and would not listen to the Fred manager. This probably cost Fred the game as they were rallying from being down 5-0 and were down 5-3 with runners on 1st and 2nd and 1 out in the inning.

That and he blew a couple of pick offs that were the Fred pitcher clearly had the guy.
