Give me a break!!

Starting pitchers: 5 to a team, dozens in the minor leagues (of varying quality levels), 30 big league teams.

Good, young, slugging, catchers: What, maybe five in all of baseball?

Cubs internal catching options: The Great Geovanny Soto? The just-drafted Josh Donaldson?

Action: I would happily trade the replaceable Rich Hill, the replaceable Will Ohman (or if they preferred, Clay Rapada or Carmen Pignatiello from Iowa), **AND** Felix Pie for Saltalamacchia and an Atlanta top-10 minor league infielder prospect not on the 40-man.

How would I replace the .500 pitcher Rich Hill? Sean Gallagher. Mark Holliman. Ryan Dempster to rotation. Trade for a castoff veteran.

Are you seriously using win/loss as a basis to your argument? Hill gets no run support, and win/loss is a terrible stat to judge a pitcher

The man thinks Don Kessinger was good. What did you expect?

Nice, attack someone without provocation. Good for you.

You still didnt justify your reasoning on using a stupid stat like wins and losses for Hill. Look at his run support and see why hes a .500 pitcher

DKWG,

Why do you break down the comparison as every starting pitcher in the majors vs elite catchers? And why do you imply Salt is in the elite category? Sure, he has had a pretty decent one hundred thirty something at bats this year (currently his ops is only about .750 though) but last year he hit terribly in AA. He is certainly no guaranteed stud.

sincerely,

CHL

disclaimer- I love Salt, he has been one of my favorite spects over the last couple of years, but I think it would be ridiculous to trade Rich Hill plus for him.

I was being sarcastic since I assumed you were too. The good news is that now that I know you were expressing your honest opinion, my comment still works... even sans sarcasm.

Rumors are coming out of Dallas that the Rangers and Braves are working on trade of Texiera for a package of Salty +
That makes the most sense to me, but Tex will be looking at a seven or eight figure salary, I don't see how the cash strapped Braves will be paying for him. I guess if they let Andruw walk they could exchange his money for Tex. Solid move by the Braves if true. I predicted that they would win the NL East with NY as the WC. We shall see.
