Bruce Levine was on ESPN radio AM 1000 last night with JD and Hood. He "predicted" Scott Moore would get the call-up today based on Ward being a left-handed hitter/1B/RF type. According to Bruce yesterday, Ward's injury is very, very serious, i.e. could be out for the year type - not sure what the news is today.

As for Cedeno, Bruce thinks he'll be up soon. His guess is that Cedeno will be up when Lee is back next week and Fox or Moore will be sent back down.

Last thing he said last night is that he feels Hendry will add an arm and a veteran bat at the trading deadline - mentioned Lofton as a run scorer, but thought it could also be an RBI guy in the OF - Cubs are a bit disappointed in Floyd's day-to-day injuries.

Cubs are just like that little kid that keeps on touching the hot stove...over and over and over again.

I am reading into the fact that Cedeno and Murt were not called-up as follows: theya re both torching the ball in AAA, but would no doubt play worse if they were up here. Perhaps their relative trade values are enhanced by their play at AAA?

The 25-man is in chaos with all the injuries and Lee's suspension. I wouldn't read anything into the temp call-ups versus Cedeno or Murton.

seconded. give it at least a week to straighten itself out.

Good stuff. What did the Cubs expect out of Floyd? The guy is as injury prone as they come.

I'm definetely encouraged by the play of some of our minor leaguers but you won't win a pennant chase without adding some serious MLB standard hitting. We've been a bat short all year at this point we are several bats down.

We're Cubs fans; it's natural that we'd want Moore, Moore, Moore!

Considering my last name....I'd sure like to see Moore come up and be a Stud...it'd be cool to have a Jersey...

I speculated exactly the same thing (I don't recall if it was earlier in this thread or another thread). I think it's "Moore" likely Scott will go back down in light of Lou's comments yesterday about Fox being up for a couple of weeks.

One thing for people to keep in mind when talking about Mooree coming up rather than Cedeno is there are actually two time periods involved. One is this weekend as Lee finishes his suspension, the other is the remainder of Ward's DL stint (however long that turns out to be) after Lee returns. The roster doesn't need to be the same during both periods.

The Score is reporting Ward has a tear in his calf muscle. Sounds like he's going to be out for quite some time, maybe for the rest of the year.

I think he can make it back in time for the playoffs. =P~

That's too bad, sample size or not he had a knack for knowing his role and performing well in that limited role. Hopefully when we add Griffey, Floyd will slide in nicely to Ward's role.

Ouch - Ward hasn't been earthshaking but he's been pretty solid as a pH and spot starter and provides a decent LH veteran presence. We're going to have to do a little shopping now for someone to fill that role.

I'll be really curious to see if the Cubs find a way to really go for it this year and make a "difference making" trade before the deadline.

Interesting that, when we signed both Ward and Floyd, Floyd's the one we expected to have a serious injury, but Ward's the one it actually happened to. Of course, there's still plenty of time for Floyd to suffer one too.
