Is it just me or do you always manage to get things like this?

Congrats!

Don't congratulate me just yet. I have a feeling bunches were selected as they are holding auditions over two days.

Second, the chances of the wife letting me make the trip all the way from Louisiana don't look good.

Do you have the essay you wrote and would you be willing to let us read it?

Oh, and if you can't go can you have some go as your replacement pretending to be you? If so, I nominate Yeti.

I may have a copy of the essay. I didn't like it. I edited it three times because I was limited to 100 words. The first draft was 215. After editing it down to 135, I thought it was close enough, but you couldn't submit it unless it was 100 words or less...so more editing. I thought it was crap.

And no, it doesn't appear anyone else can take my spot. I have to bring a photo id with a copy of the email...unless someone looks enough like me to use my id.

This was my essay...

Looking for the ultimate Cubs fan? I became a Cub fan by watching the Cubs on WGN with my grandfather. Now, I rarely miss a game. My dedication is shown in over 30,000 posts on a Cubs message board, my voting over 100,000 times for Derrek Lee to the 2005 ASG, my efforts to get the Cubs voted as the “home team” for the local newspaper and traveling over 2000 miles one-way each year to watch the Cubs. As evidenced by my closet of Cubs paraphernalia- I believe I’m worthy of representing Cub fans by singing at Wrigley Field.

I had much more elaboration, but 100 words greatly limits one in trying to expound and provide support for an argument.

Shreveport has direct flights to Chicago now...... Just sayin.

I checked...prices were still over $300 for a round-trip.

I may drive it. The wife and I will have to have a "discussion."

How do you normally get to Chicago? 2000 miles? Is that combined with your various trips each year - non stop? Or does it include connections?

Yes, that's not just my trip to Chicago, but includes trips to Atlanta, Houston, St.Louis or wherever.

I think it's cheaper to go from Dallas or Houston. I'm going in a month or so. I think I'll be flying from Shreveport to Dallas and then to Chicago. I have alot of credit from Continental though since they screwed me last time I flew with them.

Flying is out of the question. I found a $250 flight out of Dallas to get there...but then I'd still have to drive to Dallas.

So, if I'm going it's via the automobile.

On the bright side, she hasn't said no. She rolled her eyes a couple of times...but hasn't said no.

Just tell her you won't bug her to have sex for a month. Should do the trick.

My chances look better than 50-50 that the wife will agree. Now, I have to decide if I want to drive the 12.5 hours up there for the audition and then have to turn around and come back home.

I might try to get her to agree to let me take my daughter a few days earlier and catch the Cubs in St. Louis before coming up...

ok...hmmm.

It's looking like I'm going to make this. If the wife can get off work on Thursday and Friday, then on Tuesday we'll head up toward St. Louis and stay at the in-laws. I'll get to see Cubs-Cards in St. Louis and then go audition on Friday.

Vance how in God's name could you vote 100,000 times for Lee? Did you really have that much down time?

He's a teacher. He gets the summer off. He's got plenty of time on his hands.

I can't sing worth a crap, but I plan to win them over with my enthusiasm.

I'll pay for 3 years worth of Premium if you somehow win this thing.
