The recent trend has the Cubs winning and Zambrano being the stud we can once again rely on for a solid start pretty much every time out.

I was checking out other recent trends, however, and I found them pretty alarming to say the least.

G IP ERA WHIP BB/9 OPSA
           _ __ ___ ____ ____ ____

Marshall 4 17.2 6.11 1.81 5.09 .928
Marquis 5 26.1 6.84 1.71 4.44 .930
Hill 4 17.2 8.66 1.81 3.06 1.025 (!!)

In fairness to Marshall, in his four last starts, one was good, one was average, one was bad, and one was the 2-inning outing against Milwaukee, so sample size works against him here. The other two have been pretty reliably bad lately.

I can't believe that the Cubs have the best record in baseball over this stretch while 3/5ths of their rotation is performing this way. Cubs need to make a move, wake these guys up, or watch the bullpen and offense come back down to earth just a little bit, causing the last 6 weeks to be this season's fluke rather than the first two months. Discuss.

I think the Cubs really need another starter and I expect them to acquire one. The problem is, I doubt whoever they get will be very good, and the worst starter currently in our rotation is just about guaranteed to keep his spot.

If you look at Suppan, Capuano and Vargas you'll pretty similar results over the past month+ for the Brewers. I think its pretty normal for mediocre starters to have bad stretches like that so I wouldn't be too worried about it unless you were worried about that pitcher to start the year like say Vargas and Marquis types. I imagine Hill will work things out and be fine.

Getting Wade Miller is like a big trade.

im not worried about Marshall and definitely not Hill. Marquis Im not worried about because I know he's crap

How can you not be at least a little bit worried about Hill?

Ya, i'm not worried about Hill either. His K/9 is still around 9 and his K/BB is still around 3, his curve just wasn't biting as much as it was earlier in the season, staying high in the zone, and getting crushed. He seemed to have it worked out tonite, lets hope he can keep it up.

Well these stats have to be wrong, because Barrett was hurting the pitchers and now he's gone so they have to be doing better.

There is not a doubt in my mind that Marshall & Marquis will get back on track just as Rich Hill did tonight. Rothschild has everything under control. The only thing we really need to be concerned about is how we're going to score tickets for October's games.

Go CUBS !!

I heard that Hill was working to change the release point of some of his pitches after he got shelled last time out. It certainly seemed to work out for him tonight.

I'm really not worried. Cubs have one of the better starting rotations right now. If somebody told me at the start of this year that our entire starting rotation would sport ERA's under 4 (Marquis is the only exception at 4.03) by the break, I would've been ecstatic.
