you know...the yankees...

why, oh why can the yanks roll off 9 straight and counting while the cubbies continue to ride some demented rollercoaster!?

for serious...the cubs have better pitching than the yanks...maybe not a better lineup...but...grrrrrrr

sorry...wasted thread...seeing this kind of thing makes me really really frustrated

ETA: i guess this post should have gone in the red sox thread...sorry...

one more thing though...what does QFT mean?

I'd rather be 5.5 games back and trailing the Brewers than 8 GB and trailing the Red Sox, first of all

Secondly, the Cubs have won 3 of 4 - that's not exactly a "demented rollercoaster"

That being said, I hate the Yankees as well.

Actually, they've now gone 8-4 since the last game of the 3 game Atlanta series a while back.

It is still pretty demented, though. They still lose games they should win in the most painful ways imaginable with regularity.

ETA is also estimated time of arrival. Depends on usage in the speak.

ETA is also a Basque Terrorist Organization, Euskadi Ta Askatasuna, which hardly comes up except in those pesky Homeland Security interviews....wait...forget i said that.

Why do so many on here hate the Yankees? They're not in our division and we will rarely play them.

They have an owner who wants to win.

They sign/trade for players who end up producing like they should.

They have developed good players through their farm system.

These are just three things I wish the Cubs could do consistently.

To address your second point first, I would say that the Yankees pitching is on par with the Cubs'. The problem for the Yankees this year has been injuries. New York has had 12 pitchers make at least one start already this year. Clemens just came back (though he wasn't injured), Mussina has missed some time, Hughes got hurt, Wang has missed some time. The Cubs might be a bit better but I wouldn't say they are significantly better. As far as the offense, I don't think there's any question that New York's is significantly better. When the Yankees are pitching well - something they weren't doing in the first two months - they are going to have a tough time.

So, to summarize and answer your question, the Yankees are better than the Cubs.

The prime time to hate the Yankees was like 2002-2005. That is when they signed or traded for just about every big name they could come up with, Sheffield, Giambi, ARod, Kevin Brown, Carl Pavano, Randy Johnson, Johnny Damon. Since then they have started to develop some of their own talent, have cut back on the spending and started to realize that just signing every high priced talent wouldn't be enough.

But the bottom line is that they still have the highest payroll by like $80 million, they are completely overexposed by ESPN and the national media, and they still have many players that people simply love to hate, whether it be steroid boy (Giambi), Mr. 250 million/slappy/metro (ARod), and traitor (Damon). So for that and the fact that they are one of the most successful teams in American sports history, they will be hated for some time.
