From rotoworld's daily dose email that was sent to me...

"Zambrano turned in his best performance of the season Monday, tossing eight innings of one-run ball against the Astros while totaling eight strikeouts and just one walk. Big Z also provided his own run support by homering off Woody Williams for the eventual game-winning run in a 2-1 victory, giving him a dozen home! rs and a .370 slugging percentage in 359 career at-bats. For comparison, Cesar Izturis has 11 homers and a .335 slugging percentage in 2,588 career at-bats."

I know everyone has proposed these questions before but HOW IN THE WORLD DID WE COVET THIS ABSOLUTE JOKE OF A BASEBALL PLAYER? I can't believe Jimmy Boy traded away Maddux to a contender to get this guy, and it wasn't even an expiring contract, it saddled us with another year at $5m dollars or whatever he makes for unreal bad offensive production.

I can't believe how all of you ignore Izturis' value to this team.

It's pretty clear that his value to the team is to play like he plays, thereby making everyone else on the team look much better than they actually are.

Yeah, this still stupefies me. How did we get decent low-minors prospects for BOTH Todd Walker and Neifi Perez (NEIFI freaking PEREZ), and yet the only thing we could get out of Maddux was an overpaid no-hit SS that used to be great on defense before a series of injuries.

Because of his defensive prowess, and probably because they thought he'd get his pre-injury stroke back.

I think it was a terrible decision, but that's exactly why. I don't know why this is in Baseball Discussions... sounds more like a rant to me.

pre-injury stroke? He always sucked as a hitter. He only had a good first part of 2004 because he had a very lucky BABIP. Aside from that he's been an anemic hitter his whole career.

You can feel free to move this to rants, but it's not non-baseball talk, it's a statistic showing that one of our starting pitchers has a higher slg pct than our $4.5M shortstop. And he has more career HR's than said SS in about 1/7th the career AB's and said SS also is 17th in fielding Pct, and only 1 person has more errors with less chances than him. I know fielding stats are pretty much worthless, but all of us can say with confidence that he's not a very good fielder anymore and he's an extremely poor hitter, and he's a complete waste of $4.5million dollars a year with the minor league prospects we had coming into the year. The only reason I posted it is because I didn't realize how worthless he really is.
