If Pie becomes the everyday CF, does that mean we now have a four-man platoon in right?

well this is a bummer for me, i was planning a trip to Iowa this week for the specific reason of watching Pie play...I'm still gonna go, at least i'll be able to see some decent baseball.

This Pie recalling makes me think its because of Lou's post game comments, when he said "get someone in here who can catch a damn ball and run the bases properly" (or something like that)

Des Moines is about a 2 hour drive for me. We went down last week and caught a game. Pie was a double short of the cycle. He absolutely murdered the ball in his first AB for a HR.

I waited outside to get an auto. from Pie. He was on a mission to get out of the ballpark, but I managed to get him to sign.

EPatt on the other hand was AWESOME!!!!! He sat and talk to my kids. I asked him how CPatt was in Baltimore and he said he really liked Baltimore. Eric was a really down to earth guy and it was very nice to meet him.

Note: Buck Coats was also extremely good with the kids! Nice guy to talk to as well.

Pie needs to be the CF, peroid. We need some consistancy in the OF, (and the IF too, to a degree). Guys need to be given time to settle into their roles. Trade jones and have a floyd/muton platoon the way I see it.

Is that a pumped-up period?

"This is no extended trial," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said. "We brought him up here to play. He's going to play."

So is Ward actually injured or were they just making room for Pie? Sucks either way...Ward has been the first decent regular pinch hitter for the Cubs that I can remember in, well, a REALLY long time.

I think it was mainly to make room for Pie. Reports that Floyd and Murton were also DL candidates suggest that the main purpose of the move was to bring Pie up. Someone had to go on the DL to make room for him and they decided on Ward. I think all three of them really are banged up, but none of them bad enough to really need to go on the DL. Of course, unless somebody (hopefully Jones) is traded by then, another decision will need to be made when Ward is eligible to come off the DL.

This gives Hendry a 25 day window to trade Jones- 15 from the DL and 10 from the DFA.

They may just get rid of Ward when he comes back from the DL. I think that's more likely than moving Jones, unfortunately.

Len and Bob had Hendry on the telecast yesterday and Hendry confirmed that Pie is up to stay for the year, having done everything that was asked of him in the brief time he was sent back down to AAA.

isn't ward hitting .167 as a pinchitter?

Yes, but with a .400 OBP.

I posted that as a reminder. I might even keep it in the signature. What I mean is, since Lou said that. He BETTER do it.
