Believe it or not, today was the first time I watched a Z start this year. I had been meaning to keep up, but lack of mlb.tv + work + school has killed my baseball this year.

Anyway, I put on todays start and the first pitch Z throws...all I think is wow he's really injured.

Today was the most disturbing too, because from what I've read he's touched 92-93 this year at all. He's got TERRIBLE control, his velocity is down, and that arm slot is ridiculous. He looks like a guy who's shoulder is giving him trouble.

I've said it time and time again...signing Z to a long term contract is one of the worst things the Cubs can do.

The assistant GM today said that the Cubs aren't aware of any injuries to Z. If he's hurt, Z isn't saying anything. His location stinks and his slider has always been a college slider at best. Zambrano doesn't want to go on the DL if he's hurt from his perspective, but I doubt he'll get a huge contract if he has a 12-10 year with a 5.00 ERA. Z has to get his emotions under control. How many times has he sucked and no one has yelled at him?

The cubs need to dump him. I just can't see him being a long term stud #1. That and when he doesn't do well he seems to take it out on teammates.

Just as it was dumb for NY to sign Isaiah Thomas when he was hot, it would be dumb for the Cubs to dump Z when he's cold. You have to give him a chance. Plus, he won't be worth nearly as much as he would be near the trading deadline. Z has a 3.5 career ERA, gets around 200 innings every year, and is never hurt. You don't dump a young pitcher with that arm after a rough stretch.

Z is almost certainly hurt. He probably has a high tolerance for pain, plus with millions at stake he naturally wants to give the impression of being a completely healthy pitcher.
