STOP TRYING TO STEAL 3RD BASE

Gotta love it. Another baserunning mistake costs us the game. Really though, the blame can't lie on Lee for that. The pen shouldn't have melted down. Lily should have pitched better. The team should have capitalized on Soriano's third hit of the night. A million things could have turned this game around, and not one of them did.

I am in no way blaming Lee for anything. Just saying I'm pretty sure this was at least the 3rd time he's been thrown out trying to take 3rd this year and I remember him doing it a bunch in the past. There's little sense in it.

Although the outcome sucked, the idea wasn't bad. Making the 2nd out at 3rd base is acceptable. There is a BIG difference in having a runner on 3rd with 1 out and having a runner on 2nd with 1 out. Lee was just trying to push another run across.

The bullpen sucks.

The idea is always bad.

Players should almost never try to steal 3rd, period. Hell, I'd rarely have players try to steal at all, but that's a can of worms that can wait till the offseason to be opened.

I hate trying to steal third, but you can't assume the same results would've happened there. After Lee gets picked off, the pitcher is pitching out of the windup instead of the stretch, he is going to pitch to Ramirez more aggressively with no one on and two outs, along with other factors. It's hard to say the Cubs still would've scored 7 that inning if Lee didn't get picked off.

eh its all for nought anyways when you have Bob Howry and Scott Eyre in the bullpen....he really needs to consider waiting on wuertz until the 8th and bringing in guzman in a little less pressure situation (i.e. the 7th)

Lee isn't just going to 3rd himself. Just another stupid coaching decision by Piniella on sending Lee to 3rd when a hit would've scored him anyway.

Im not to sure about that. Lee has the green light to run when he wants to from everything Ive read, so I really dont believe Lou had the steal sign on but we really dont know.

In that situation stealing 3rd wasn't a bad idea. Getting caught was.

At the time I thought a balk could have been called. If he doesn't get picked maybe the other players don't pick him up.
