Tim is there anyway that you can delete inactive accounts off of the servers, and if so would it make things any faster? I went through the member list and 4179 out of the 5960 registered users have never made a single post and 4758 have made less than 10 posts. There are dozens more haven't made a post in years. I think that if deleting these accounts would make any difference at all, then you should make a rule where account inactivity of 2 years or more gets your account deleted.

I agree. Although that makes our rankings look less impressive.

When is a decision going to be made?

Give the man a chance to check the forum first.

This isn't going to impact the speed of the forum, not that speed is an issue anyway. Besides, users who lurk but want the "thread viewed" functionality (http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/templates/subSilver/images/folder_new_big.gif) might be impacted.

I didn't know if it would or not, that's why I asked. I understand that some users do just lurk, but the ones that I'm talking about are ones that haven't even visited the site in years.

There are a bunch of accounts that have been created by bots registering names to get links to other sites here. Amongst the other things on my list of to-do's, I've been trying to find a way to prevent this from happening.

However, if anyone wants to volunteer the hours it would take to weed out these nonsense accounts, I'll be happy to let you at it. I figure it takes an average of around 15 secs to look at an account, figure out that it's bogus, delete it, and then get back to the user list again in the right place. Figure there's probably 1500-2000 such accounts and that's around 400+ minutes or probably seven hours worth of work.

Just don't delete any real users or I'll be in trouble.

In the end, it doesn't impact the speed or functionality of the site. So it hasn't been a priority for me and still isn't. In other words, I'm not going to get to it anytime soon. :)

My wife and I delete the bogus accounts daily off of our business web site. It is NOT fun. We were just out of town for a week and had a weeks worth of bogus accounts to delete, and I have way better things to do with my time than that.

It amazes me how many bot accounts are generated. I'd say we average over 10 a day.

I won't be taking Tim up on his offer to view and delete the bogus accounts.
