I have been kicking around an idea and a gut feeling the last week or so. With the news that Pie is staying in Chicago I want to run this up the flagpole and see what you guys and gals think.

I feel that this team isnt as good as most think, but isnt as bad as they have been playing. The thing that has been missing is a spark and someone saying get on my back I will carry you.

In 84 Dallas Greene traded Joe Carter and Mel Hall to Cleveland for Sutt, and one magical Saturday a young player picked up the year before as a throw in in a trade blossomed on a national stage. Sutt only lost one game that year after coming over.

My question is who is going to be this years Rick S and Ryne Sandberg?

Is there a player out there we can add, and can Murton become the blossoming youngster?

what this team needs is people getting on base in front of two very good hitters.

i see flashes of sandberg in Murton and Theriot.

Now, that's comedy.

Except that both a quite a bit older than Sandberg was in 84. In 82 and 83 noone saw anything in Sandberg that would have made you think he was going to develop into the player that he became. He however was given an opportunity to play and develop, which seems to have become out of reach of most Cubs management and 3/4 of fans. Murton was probably a better hitter last year than Sandberg was in 82. Sandberg was not a top prospect either.

Yeah, man, what's so funny about it?

Murton has a nice approach at the plate, plays within himself, works hard, has a little speed. . . nothing that just wows you, but when the day is done, he produces.

Theriot is a guy who's been given a chance and jumped all over it. He's not the most talented guy out there, but he busts his tail. He uses what he has and gets the most out of it.

Both have similarities to Sandberg in his early days.

My comment isn't funny. . . . . .the pissing match between IMB and 98Navigator in the "Dlee Homer Watch" thread is funny ;)

dempster will be this year's latroy hawkins and ronny cedeno will be this year's neifi perez

He may be that bad, but he's not overpaid enough to be considered the next Neifi.
