I just posted this in another thread about Izzy defense. It has been very smooth and very good other than 1 game. Last night that play he made up the middle was terrific and turned into a DP that saved lord knows how many runs. You can argue him not being a good enough hitter to justify starting, but he is very good defensively and dont let just one game diminesh that. That is like saying Zambrano is not a good pitcher just because he blew up in one game and has not gotten off to the best start

 

I've seen a lot more than one game where his reputation didn't really hold up.

 

Blowing a routine play yesterday that would have ended the inning comes to mind.

He also doesn't have that strong of an arm. Maybe due to tommy john surgery he had but it is what it is.

Um..that doesn't exactly help with the lot more than 1 game comment, because that was the one game they were talking about.

 

Izturis has been pretty good defensively other than that 1 game, but not great. I'm actually not sure why that is-he showed a stronger arm in the limited time he was here in August than he's showed so far this year. That limit on the arm caused a play like last night, where with his previous arm he had plenty of time, and now he doesn't (although as I said in another thread, the runner was still out, but Izturis shouldn't have made it that close). If he can get back to the arm he had in August, he'll be fine-I just don't know if he can get back to that or not.

I missed the "other than 1 game" comment in this thread. In the other thread we were judging Theriot on being unable to be "clutch" last night as a reason for him to not be an option to play SS, so I was using that 1 game against Izzy.
