Robert Whiting is the best-selling author of my three favorite books on Japanese baseball -- The Chrysanthemum and the Bat, You Gotta Have Wa and The Meaning of Ichiro. If you're curious about baseball across the Pacific, I can't recommend them enough.

Whiting recently wrote a four-part series for The Japan Times on Japanese baseball that I just finished. I really enjoyed it so I figured I'd share.

Part I -- Is the MLB destroying Japan's national pastime?

Part II -- Foreign managers change face of Japanese game

Part III -- NPB needs major reform, vision to prosper like MLB

Part IV -- NPB players in need of strong union like MLBPA
