help me understand this stuff. just from eyeballing things it doesn't seem like the new scoring helps pitchers that much...but i can't remember what stuff was worth last season. for instance, last night bush's line looked like this...

6 ip, 13 tba, 1 er, 5 k's, 0 bb, w, qs

he got 14 points.

like i said, i don't remember what stuff was worth last year, but i know a an inning was worth 1.5, a win was worth 3, tba were -.25 each, and i think a qs was 7 (?).

just based on those numbers, he would have scored 15.75. that's not factoring in k's (which i think we worth .25) or taking out earned runs. that doesn't seem like much of an increase...in fact, he may have scored more under last season's scoring.

i understand that the new scoring helps a guy who throw eight innings and gives up two singles. and as juan said (and contreras proved) it hurts guys who suck. but it seems like it doesn't help guys who pitch decently (like bush)...in fact, it may hurt them.

am i missing something?

I think that we will need to revisit pitching scoring this off season. Last night Vazquez threw 5.1 innings, gave up 2 earned runs, and earned a win. Fuentes pitched 1 inning and earned a save. Vazquez earned around 12 points Fuentes earned 8. To my mind that does not sound right.

Thoughts?

I think too many points are taken off for TBA. I also believe that if W doesn't count for starters, S and H shouldn't count for relievers.

obviously we'll review at the end of the season. I think comparing specific outings is kind of pointless. if we remove saves, RPs are pretty worthless. I will go with the majority on that issue.

TBAs are just fine. They are only noticeable because of the way they are subtracted overnight. in fact, the ratio of IP to TBAs is more favorable this year.
