Did anybody see the game live or listen that can chat about whether Miller was sharp, or a bit lucky with 5 scoreless IP (or both)? I'm curious if he looks like he will start the season as a pretty sharp 5th, at this stage anyway.

I'll admit, he did get away with some hanging curves... But the important thing is he threw a lot of strikes.

Maybe he'll be OK, as long as he isn't facing Big Z.

Not that he can't be effective or anything, but I just love fine journalism from Carrie:
A 16-game winner in 2001 with Houston, Miller is close to that form. He's not overpowering with 90-plus mph fastballs, but may be a better pitcher.
There's no way he's better than the sub 3.50 ERAs he put up in 01, 02 and pre-injury 04.

He pitched pretty effective late last year and I knew he could be a decent pitcher. A very good #5 no doubt. The only problem our #2 and #4 aren't so stellar.

Seriously, how hard would it have been to crop that pic of yours around Lou's giant noggin? Yes, we know he managed Tampa Bay. I don't think the mysterious contours of his jacket/poncho/whatever are telling us anything new about his "intensity."

So now we're critiquing my lazyness? I linked to that pic way back when we first got Lou. I didn't crop it or anything. Unlike my avatar which I did crop.

But if we are critiquing the size. I don't even have the largest avatar in this thread, and the sig not by a longshot.

I think she meant that he has a better idea of how to work the hitter, change speeds, and move the ball around the zone instead of using his fastball to just overpower hitters. I think that's how she'd define being a "better pitcher"-to use much worse tools to achieve the same results.

The part I disagree with her about is that Miller is close to that form that he was in 2001. I think he has the capability of that, but he needs to show me many more good starts before I think he's that good-right now, I'd classify him as adequate at being a 5th starter.

Man, I really hate it when people have large sigs and large avatars at the same time ;)

With skates, but make them roller skates. I'd rather worry about getting bonked in the head with wheels than getting an accidental beheading. :D
