Why am I not surprised....

sorry i didn't get back to you within the allotted 18 hour time limit

And you should be.

Its still a pathetic notion. Mike Fontenot. And he was drafted much higher than Payne will be.

fine, feel free to regale us with more of your horribly flawed analysis of the player.

expand and back up your claims.

You criticized him based on his number of HRs per plate appearance, which penalizes anybody who has a patient approach at the plate.

The last I checked, this was the statistically valid why to do it. Because, obviously when someone's taking a walk THEY CANT HIT A HOME RUN SO THEIR EXPECTED POWER IS LOWER. It's not molecular physics, it's pretty intuitive. One negative byproduct of taking walks is you lower your expected extra base power.

If that's what you're calling me out on, you had better find something else. That's pretty [expletive].

What's funny is that you base most of your analysis of players on statistics, but here's a guy who statistically looks very good, and because the scouts don't like him, you're saying he's not that good a ballplayer.

But I'll cease the discussion here. I've always found it's pointless debating someone who "knows" they're always right.

I'll also add that I don't think you have to worry the Cubs taking Payne, since he's the type of player a team that wins like the Red Sox or A's will select. The Cubs will nab a free-swinging loser from high school with a cannon arm who can hit a ball 500 feet, on the rare occasion that he makes contact.

That would be true except for the first high school player that Wilken drafted last year was in the 9th round.

the next polished college hitter that I see the cubs draft in the first 2 rounds will be the first one in Lord knows how long

A guy named Payne? He's a born Cub.

Is there a guy named Mizzeri in the draft?

What about Greefe? Dume? D. Spare?

What's even funnier, is that as a person who is well acquainted with statistics, I also know that the correlation from college to the minors is more or less non-existent. There's almost no data to suggest that he's capable of repeating his success in Low A - much less the majors.

I do love how you completely dropped the power argument. That's nice. Hit and run.

That's not a fair shake. If you would have read moneyball you'd realize that athleticism is paramount for most players, Baker aside. This is the type of player that JP Ricciardi would take. Ricciardi's system has been as good as the Cubs with respect to developing position players. Adam Lind's a stud, but he had power as a standout tool when he was drafted.

Bobby Hill's my first guess.

Colvin's hardly a polished hitter. I'd agree with Bobby Hill though.
