A - for what he's said so far. I cannot believe my eyes and ears. He could not be more perfect with his words.

Hopefully that will carry over to his decisions in the regular season.

Lou so far A-

Gerald Perry A+

-I have only wathced a few games this year when they were on, but the Cubs look much more patient than they have in previous years. Working the count more seems like it is part of the plan and I am glad to see they are willing to wait for the pitch they are looking for. Keep it up Gerald.

I agree, although we will see how things play out once the season starts, our approach at the plate has been a cause for optimisim.

I agree. Gerald Perry is a great pick-up. I think if we had him in 2004, we would've had the Wild Card.

Don't expect a straight left-right platoon in left field between Matt Murton and Cliff Floyd when the regular season starts. Murton will likely get most of the playing time while Floyd will be used prudently to avoid reinjuring his left foot.

"One thing with Cliff, we want to make sure he's healthy for the stretch run in August and September," Piniella said. "It gets cold early in the season. The worst thing we can do is get too comfortable and have a setback. He'll get his at-bats, no question about it. But at the same time, overusing him, not only from my perspective, but from the team medical perspective, they said to be very careful."

Floyd would most likely prefer to hear that he's getting the majority of at-bats.

"I'll probably get a knock on my door," Piniella said. "I understand the competitive nature. These kids all want to play and do well but at the same time, you have to be realistic. He's coming off a serious injury and we've had to hold him back in Spring Training. What's the sense of wasting all of that rehab period by going full bore with something that from a medical standpoint won't be good for him?"

 If I didn't already have a pic of Piniella in my avatar. I'd do it now.

No, what would have happened is that Dusty would have fired Perry before Perry had a chance to develop bad habits, such as patience and taking walks, to the players. It's called hitting, not walking. :D

I had no problem grasping the concept of this thread and I'll be happy to give my grade of A+ so far.

It was just a regular A until I read this latest quote about Floyd being saved for the stretch run. Not only will this kill a bunch of Floyd's incentives kicking in, but it gives Murton a chance to show what he can do playing regularly.

Piniella has said all the things I want to hear. Now, he just needs to follow through and do all the things I want to see.

He's empasized walks being important. He's put good OBP guys in the 2 slot. He's said he will take the best 25 guys to the show. He's talked about moving one of Theriot or DeRosa to the outfield (assuming he is considering platooning Jones) on certain days. The list goes on and on.

Lou has quickly desolved my pessimism. I'm optimistic going into 2007. The combination of added talent and Lou's comments and what he's shown so far has me excited for the first time in quite awhile.

Worst to first is a pretty big leap. But, I think Lou's managing style fits this club way better than the lifeless bunch Dusty created and managed.

I'm not a big believer in clubhouse chemistry. But, I do think the attitude that people come to the ballpark with can affect their production. If the guys are excited to be there, I think the production level is better than when you have a whole bunch of guys who could concoct a long list of places they would rather be than on the field in Wrigleyville, which is what I saw last year.

This team has the talent to win lots of games. Winning makes people want to win more. From what I have seen so far, I think Lou is moving this team in the right direction to win a lot of games.
