but Sean Gallagher has yet to strikeout a guy this spring. The only Cub pitcher with over three innings of work and no strikeouts is Mark Prior. Sean has worked seven innings and has none. It's only spring training, but this has me very worried about his ability to gets swing and misses against AAA/MLB hitters.

The announcers for today's game were stating that he may have a sore shoulder. Don't know if that has anything to do with his performance this spring. I thought we had been hearing reports about an increase in velocity, but through the second inning he was only pitching in the mid/high 80's with very few 90 pitches. (According to the FSN).

i was sitting behind a scout in the stands today, and he was running a gun during the first inning. gallagher was 90-92, and he had one 95.

The Cubs seems to be on an extreme "do not walk people" kick in the spring. Perhaps they are just throwing a lot more strikes and really emphasizing pitching to contact now. I really don't see any reason to be concerned with a pitcher having 0 strikeouts in 7 scattered spring training innings. If such a rate holds up into April, I'll raise an eyebrow, but you can't really take anything out of spring results, especially extremely limited spring results.

The pitch breakdown from the Milwaukee broadcast yesterday is below. I had originally missed the first inning, but the breakdown supports my initial impression that he wasn't throwing his curve as much as he has during the season and was relying mainly on fastball - change combinations. The good news being that his change looks good ... I'm not going to consider his not throwing the curve as much bad news yet, since it's still early.

He gets a lot of Ks on that curve. It is worth noting that he didn't get any pure swings-and-misses yesterday -- the strikes were called or fouled. There was only one OF putout recorded.

According to the broadcast speeds, his fastball didn't dip below 90 until the 4th inning when he clearly seemed to be running out of gas.

I was out of town and missed his first tv game, so I don't know how the pitch selection compares. Three of his four ST appearances have been vs the Brewers. For the "benefit" of those who didn't see the broadcast: The Brewers are leading the cactus league in batting average and runs scored!!! The broadcasters were *very* impressed with this.

Hey the reports about Sean and his shoulder aren't true.... I saw the same blurb about this and want to say that this had to do with Marshall who was scheduled to pitch also. As for velocity has a few folks in the stands and confirmed he was low 90's and was mainly working on his change, his curve not a problem but just things he is working on. I was watching game yesterday and knew he ran out of gas in the 4th, I am not to concerned about anything but would like to see him with a few more innings before camp breaks. I must say that he was able to keep the ball down and hit his spots and still have a hard time with the pitch Hall hit for the homerun. That pitch was outside corner about knee high and he jacked it. I was impressed cause after the game when I spoke with Sean while he was warming-up in the bull-pen he was listening to the Brewers line-up and there were no sloutches in the bunch.......

Thanks for the update (especially in regards to the shoulder -- the remark drew a lot of 'huhs?" in the game thread)!

thanks for the update - the confusion makes all sorts of sense, since the broadcasters were idiots (and worse, idiots that hadn't done their homework)

I had just seen him working out at Fitch on Sunday, and he looked fine then, so glad to know he didn't suffer any setbacks!
