How about trading J. Jones and Izturis to the Angels for Cabrera. The Angels need a OF, especially with GMJR's problems, and Cabrera can easily be replaced by Aybar with the brothers Izturis as backups. The Cubs get a solid SS and possible #2 hitter. Obviously, the deal might need to be tweaked a bit with other players and/or money.

It's not going to happen. Pie is headed back to AAA. Plus, I doubt Jones would net Cabrera.

Cabrera and Izturis will likely have about the same OBP this season, and Cabrera will have about 50 points of SLG on Izturis.

 

Is that enough to outweigh Izturis's better defense?

I like that idea. I doubt a deal could be done that is that simple, but that could be the framework to get something done.

just to add to this but someone over at this site ####://cubsrumorsandnews.blogspot.com/ posted a rumor regarding those same players. Although I don't believe some of the info like Pie playing right, it is interesting.

I think a deal is more likely at the deadline. Like I said in other threads, depending on the teams' success, I could see Renteria, O. Cabrera, Crosby all being available. The question becomes is the upgrade at SS offensively more than the downgrade in the OF from Jones to Pie.

That deal does start to make some sense...especially if you'd consider Renteria's additional offense making up for replacing Jones with Pie....and they need an aditional arm for their staff.....hmm
