Bruce, do you think Theriot has a legit shot and starting at SS, or are they just trying him there since it's Spring Training?

Chicago has hit seven home runs this spring training, good for fourth among National League clubs … the Cubs have eight stolen bases, which ranks tied for second (with Atlanta) behind Colorado’s 13.

 

 

The Cubs have drawn 20 free passes over the team’s first six games of the spring – that’s an average of 3.3 walks per game.

 

Last season, Chicago walked just 2.4 times per contest, finishing the year 30th in the Majors with 395 free passes.

It's still early but...

 

Was there any optimism for depth after May 1 last year? It's nice that Les Walrond probably won't see 5th on the depth chart this year. It's nice that I don't mind seeing the bench players get an occasional start. I'll take Pagan, Floyd and Theriot over Bynum, Mabry and Neifi in a heartbeat. The entire roster seems stronger.

 

Hendry put both lineups together. Dusty's gone so he'll get a lot of blame after the Cubs improve. We aren't relying on our elite bats as much. It's like Hendry and Walt Jocketty switched teams.

Personally, I'd really like to see the Scott Moore experiment at SS keep going. If he can handle it even relatively poorly, his bat would be a huge improvement over Izturis.

Personally, I'd really like to see the Scott Moore experiment at SS keep going. If he can handle it even relatively poorly, his bat would be a huge improvement over Izturis.

 

Yep. Moore projects to be a very good hitter.

 

I like him quite a bit more than BA does... they think he'll be a utility guy with David Bell upside. Then again, even David Bell would probably be an upgrade over Izturis if he could play a passable short.
