Who's saying that he'd accept a trade?

He's said in the past that if the Yankees came to him and flat out said "we want to trade you," he'd go along with it.

This really isn't a story until the offseason. Arod is Yankee property until then and they aren't trading him unless they get a haul in return.

I still don't see Arod walking away from the kind of money he has left on that deal.

The Yankees will be covered the same this year as they always are. Arod will be the main topic. I don't think he's a Yankee at seasons end.

So if Zambrano had controversy surrounding him and decided he wasn't coming back next season, you'd let him pitch this season and say see ya? I'd hope we'd be smarter than that and get something in return.

The Yankees do what he wants, or they get nothing.

Reports in NY are that he will accept being traded, but he'd want an extension in 3/49 million range. So if the Cubs traded for him they may have him for 6 years. I believe he has 3/81 after this year, so it would somewhere in the range of 6/130 which wouldn't be back considering Texas is on the hook the first 3 years.

I'm willing to take my chances on A-rod with that...

From what I understand, the Yankees are only on the hook for 48 over those three years, with the Rangers picking up the rest of the tab.

Cashman almost sounds like he's encouraging ARod to leave.

The plot thickens. The more all this news comes out, the more I get excited at the idea of A-Rod actually being a Cub. Here's to hoping that our hopes don't get crushed like they tend to.

I just bought a Ramirez jersey. Here's hoping A-Rod would accept moving back to his natural SS

He can go over to right field too. I have no problem trading Pie to make room for Arod.

We don't need A-rod. We already have Theriot and Izturis at SS. you can't have all HR hitters in the lineup. You need defense too. Getting A-rod would be a bad move. The lineup is fine the way it is. A-rod will suck in Chicago, because there is just as much pressure here, if not more, than New York. He should go somewhere in a smaller market.

Joke?

Edit: hypothetical. The Cubs don't manage to resign Big Z in ST and deal him straight up for A-Rod near the deadline.

Hypothetical II: The Cubs trade Prior, Pie, Veal for A-Rod at the deadline.

Not a joke.......at SS, defense is more important than offense.

If it's not a joke, it's just very, very wrong.

How is it very wrong.......when's the last lineup that had all HR hitters that did well. Not to mention both our infield defense and outfield defense will be bad. Arod isn't young anymore, he can't play SS like the way he used to.

but you said we didn't need him because of izturis and cedeno...that, in itself, is very very WRONG.

Please learn to read. Where in my post did I say Cedeno? I said Theriot and Izturis. Both are better defensively than Arod.

okay, sorry...theriot...same difference at this point as far as i'm concerned....also, who cares about your damn defense when you're hitting 40+ homers and driving in 125 every single year?

It is so wrong and misguided in so many ways that I don't even want to begin explaining why it's wrong.

I don't understand the theory that the Cubs lineup is all fine and dandy right now. We're talking about one of the worst lineups for the past 4 years. Soriano is the only real upgrade, and he's not going to turn them into top notch on his own.

True... but going from Juan Pierre to Soriano is a huge bump. So is having Lee back for a full season. It'll definitely be improved significantly. How much is anybody's guess.

You realize that ARod is the best SS on his team, right?

That's one place you can start.

Then there's the fact that defense at any position ISN'T more important than offense.

Then there's the fact that a lineup of productive hitters of any kind will score more runs and win more games than a lineup with less productive hitters.

I guess I'll stop there...

I know they're better, but I don't see how anybody can say they are good enough. We aren't talking about a salary cap sport where all you can reasonably hope for is being good on both sides of the ball, and try to be great at one. The Cubs are blowing teams away in the salary department, but still very far from blowing them away in the stats department. This is turn, means they won't be blowing people away in the standings. They can use all the help they can get in this lineup.
